Valentine's Day Picnic Spots in Auckland

Valentine's Day Picnic Spots in Auckland

We're lucky in this country to have the most romantic day of the year fall during our brilliant summer. What better way to show your loved one that you care than by going on a romantic picnic? To help you score points with your significant other we've put together a list of our favourite picnic spots in Auckland. Enjoy!

Piha
One of Auckland's most beautiful beaches is located on the rugged and wild West Coast. Wind-swept and untamed, this is the perfect place for a local adventure. The magestic Lion Rock provides shade from the sun and the sweeping black sand beach is the best place to plop down for a picnic.

North Head
One of the most dramatic views of the Waitemata Harbour and downtown Auckland can be seen from North Head, near Devonport on the North Shore. A volcanic headland, North Head was used as a military installment during wartime, with tunnels, underground facilities and large guns protecting the entrance to the harbour. Today the park offers the most stunning views of the city and is the perfect place to watch the sunset with your loved one.

Auckland Domain
The Domain is Auckland's oldest park and contains the Auckland Museum, War Memorial Centopath, Duck Ponds, sports fields and the beautiful Wintergardens. It's the perfect central location for a bit of an escape in the middle of the city.

Cornwall Park
The park is renowned for its landscape design and its wide variety of mature trees. It is centred on a volcanic cone, One Tree Hill, and has sweeping 360 degree views of the city. It's a magical place for a glass of bubbles.

Long Bay Regional Park
A sweeping bay and large grassy park make Long Bay a more summery option for picnicking. After spending the day relaxing with some good food and good company cool off with a swim in the North Shore waters.

Michael Joseph Savage Memorial Park
Named after one of New Zealand's first Prime Ministers this park is perched high above Mission Bay and Tamaki Drive, just east of downtown Auckland. It's unique location gives it panoramic views of the Waitemata Harbour right across to Devonport on the North Shore. It's truely breathtaking. Sit amongst the formal gardens (featuring a pond) and the large memorial to Michael Joseph Savage and take in the views, the history and the sunshine.
