Torpedo Bay Navy Museum Information
Torpedo Bay, on the shores of the Waitemata Harbour in Devonport, is the new home of the Navy Museum. The move to Torpedo Bay has been both an outstanding opportunity and an incredible journey.
The Torpedo Bay cafe offers spectacular views over the Waitemata Harbour and central Auckland CBD, and provides great coffee and a menu of delicious New Zealand cuisine.
I took my children to the Torpedo Bay Navy Museum during the school holidays. It is a great place to go just for an hour or so because it is not too big, although I agree with the previous reviewer that there is a lot more reading that adults can do if they were to go back by themselves! The info is very interesting, and I think it would be particularly special if you had a grandfather or someone else who had served in the Navy and you wanted to know a bit more about their experiences. As part of the holiday programme my kids were able to choose a ship they liked, colour in a little picture of it and make it into a badge. It only cost $2 and they were very happy for 15 minutes or so! Another popular activity with the children was dressing up in uniform and having their picture taken.
I took the kids along to the Torpedo Bay Navy Museum and we had an absolute ball.
Really well done and just the right size. I'll be venturing back to Torpedo Bay again so I can soak up a bit more of the information without the kids distracting me....well worth a visit.
