This was one of the best family days out we have had in a while. Great show which we all found interesting and enjoyable, and just a lovely relaxed but professional feel about the place. Lots of cute farm animals to feed etc after the show, all of which looked very well cared for. Cafe also very good.

We took the kids to Sheepworld last weekend, a great experience for all of us. The kids loved running around and feeding the farm animals, and we all loved the Sheep Show which was far more interesting and entertaining than we had expected. The on-site cafe was also a find, much better than the greasy fast food etc normally found at these types of places.
All in all a quality operation, definitely worth the drive from Auckland.

I took my children to Sheep World because it was featured here on view Auckland. It is a small property approx. 3 kms North of Warkworth. The entry is though a large gift shop into the venue. sheep world consists of several small open air enclosures that contain sheep, a calf, baby and adult pigs, 2 miniature horses, ducks, emu and rabbits.

There is also a small under cover enclosure to the right after just walking in that houses guinea pigs, a hen and her chicks, pickets and some other small creatures.

Every facility at Sheep World was putrid and caked in filth. Many of the small animals had no water, the food bowls were covered in caked on dirt. If water was available to any of the animals it was fetid, slimy, dirty and covered in algae.

I asked the manager about the putrid condition of the cages and lack of any clean water and the general disgusting appearance of the entire animal enclosure. He was polite, co operative and agreed it was unacceptable and said they were going to rectify it. All the under cover animal enclosures were covered in filth and excrement, built up over months in some cases.

Two adult pigs in an outdoor enclosure had no option but to stand in about half a foot of mud, or move to the other end of their pen which was muddy liquid. There was no dry ground, no water, no food and it smelt.

I was horrified and appalled that Sheep World is allowed to operate under these conditions,

Although we paid for the sheep and dog show we didn't stay. I couldn't wait to get my children put of there. The conditions I witnessed today did not get that way in a week, or a month. I didn't want to find out what condition the animals in the show would be in.

Please visit this place and take some action. It was hard to confront the manager today about the disgusting conditions at Sheep World but I did it.

Unless things have gone downhill in the 4 weeks since we took our 3 under 6's, I think you are exaggerating slightly! I agree it's not the best-kept petting-zoo (try Kiwi-Valley for that) but it's hardly 'putrid and caked in filth)!!It's a shame you missed the Sheep and Dog show as it offers a great understanding of how a working sheep dog lives. - Report

This lady visited us the day after a 5 day storm which not only created a terrible mess but also resulted in disruption to our regular cleaning and maintenence schedule. This was explained to the visitor and she was invited to visit again free of charge in a few days to see us in a more normal state. To our knowledge she did not take up our offer, which is a shame.
We voluntarily have our premises and animals inspected monthly by the local vet, who we feel confident would have raised the issues alleged by the visitor had they existed as she describes. - Report
