Semi-Permanent, Auckland 2013

You’re an old hand at this creative conference gig now, what is the most interesting, and conversely, challenging component of setting up an experience of this magnitude?
It's always the last minute things that require time when time is the one thing that doesn't exist. Similarly, resourcing to ensure all the stakeholders are happy, cared for and really feel like they are part of something special.

This year’s lineup - what excites you the most?
The whole lot! It's an exciting and diverse range of really cool people. I think people will enjoy the mix and take something unexpected from the journey.

Are there other International creative festivals that inspire you? What ones?
We have great friends around the world we love offf and itsnicethat crew.

How do you see New Zealand’s creative community - do we (as a society) value creativity enough?
Yeah Nah Maybe! Getting there! You all know when experienced it. Buying a nice pair of shoes that last more than a year, losing yourself in a beautiful space, indulging in exquisite food. Playing an instrument, dancing, singing and getting outside your comfort zone. I think we all could play more, experiment more and more importantly - GO CREATE SHIT!

There are some real champions of our industry. These people are pushing the boundaries and do not put up with the status quo. Love it.

What was the defining moment when you realized yes, this is what I want to be doing for a living?
February 14 2004, Age 25, I was a qualified accountant, then went and art directed a photo shoot, resigned the next day and set up a design agency.

You’ve got some downtime in Auckland - where do you head?
For Eats - cheap 'n choice K Road Food Court. Not as cheap but just as choice Moochowchow, Blue Breeze Inn and Salta.

For Drinks - Golden Dawn and Gypsy Tea Rooms.

One item that you can’t do without?
My Little Welshy.
