Rising Voices Poetry Slam 2011
Saturday, 17 September 2011
Auckland Town Hall - Concert Chamber
Rising Voices is an explosive night that promises to not only expand, but blow your mind too. Auckland’s youngest aspiring performance poets come together in full flight at Rising Voices 2011, our city’s largest youth Poetry Slam, to chase the tile of Rising Voices Poetry Slam Champion.
Emerging poets aged 16 to 24 from across Auckland will bring their words to the stage, influenced by their diverse backgrounds, upbringings, cultures and charisma. With no music or props allowed, they are just armed with their three original poems and voices as weapons, in this winner-takes-all poetry battle.
Over three exciting rounds they will compete in front of a panel of three acclaimed judges – Feleti Strickson-Pua (Nesian Mystik), Dr Selina Tusitala Marsh (Pacific Poet and Auckland University English Lecturer) and Penny Ashton (Comedian & Poetry Idol Founder) - to get to the final heat.
In the final heat the audience takes control and get to choose which two finalists will walk away with the championship. The night is also punctuated with leading and established New Zealand musicians and artists.
Don’t miss this one night only showcase of the raw and passionate voice of young Auckland.
