The top 50 cafes in Auckland, as chosen by Metro magazine, were announced earlier this week with some interesting picks making the list.

There were many old favourites who made the list, showing the quality of service and hospitality hasn't dropped despite tough economic times.

But there were some new businesses making their debut on the list, giving past nominees a run for their money.

Winner: Gala Cafe
23 Edwin Street, Mt Eden

Gala Cafe in Mt Eden was crowned top cafe for 2010 in the Metro top 50. With an overall impressive service, from coffee to food to location, Gala is located in a central suburban area, perfect for a pre-work stop.

Runner up: Zus & Zo
228 Jervois Road, Herne Bay

Dutch owners Joost and Clare van den Berg opened Zus & Zo earlier this year. Meaning "this and that", Zus & Zo do provide a bit of everything. Check out what they have on offer at their Jervois Road location ASAP.

Third place: Teed St Larder
7 Teed Street, Newmarket

Described as providing "scrumptious counter food, a creative menus... and tempting made-to-order sandwiches", how could you not head along to Teed St Larder?
