The cast has been selected and tickets are now on sale for the world’s first planetarium production of Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of the Worlds, a live multi-media stage show in the Stardome planetarium theatre. The Stardome season of The War of the Worlds will consist of thirty four 90 minute performances, at 8:30pm every Wednesday to Sunday from 1 November 2012 to 16 December 2012.

The cast includes some of Auckland’s top theatre talent, and during each show their live performances will interact with the spectacular planetarium projections, lighting and special effects. Dramatic staging, sound and lighting effects, and incredible custom-made visuals will converge in the planetarium as Martians hover above the audience in their fighting machines, enveloping them in the middle of the commotion, while heat rays fire across their heads with smoke and special effects. Audience members will be enveloped in an unforgettable multi-dimensional experience.

Stardome secured the rights to stage Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of the Worlds partly because of the unique environment a 360-degree planetarium theatre can provide. The combination of projected images onto the planetarium’s dome and live stage performance is a world first, so visitors can expect The War of The Worlds to come to life in a way it never has before.

Casting the show’s performers generated a large amount of interest from talented individuals, says the show’s producer/director Colin James. “Selecting the cast was hard as there was a lot of interest in the show – perhaps due to the appeal The War of the Worlds has. We’ve chosen a group of talented performers who are not only huge fans of The War of the Worlds themselves, but are all experienced actors.”

Work on the production started in September 2011 with animation teams from New Zealand and across the US working on the planetarium visuals. Presale tickets are available from www.iticket.co.nz at 9am today for $45. Full ticket sales begin on 9th July.
