Fat Freddy’s Drop are pleased to announce shows at The Mercury Theatre, Auckland.

Fat Freddy’s Drop has announced a third Auckland show at The Mercury Theatre in May. With their Friday and Saturday night shows sold out, the band has added Sunday 22 May to a weekend of Freddys at The Mercury Theatre. Fat Freddy’s Drop also play The Front Room in hometown Wellington on Queen's Birthday weekend before heading to Europe for a six week tour.

Freddy's is leading the charge for live music at the oldest surviving theatre in Auckland. Established in 1910, The Mercury Theatre has recently been used as a cinema and an evangelical church.

Congregating at The Mercury Theatre for two nights on 20th and 21st May and The Front Room on 4th June, Freddy's promise a riff of old and new tunes that they’ll be taking on the road overseas. The international tour takes in a headline show at the 5000 capacity Brixton Academy in London, followed by shows in Ireland, Portugal, Germany, Poland, Norway, Belgium, France, Spain and Brisbane.

Having stated during their On The Road to Opononi Summer Tour that New Zealand would see less of Freddy's in 2011, the Auckland and Wellington shows are a response to the reaction from the band’s local fan base.

The band’s only local performance since January has been at the “Cuba For Christchurch” multi-band fundraiser. The intimate vibe at San Francisco Bath House inspired them to choose similar sized venues for their upcoming shows. The Mercury Theatre is strictly limited to 578 seats while The Front Room has a capacity of 650. Fans still talk about Freddy’s Halloween gig at The Front Room back in 2009.

Kicking off the New Zealand shows, Freddy's are pleased to offer a free download of Fat Freddy’s Drop vs The Electric Flashback 2011, a sonic Flashback remix by upstanding new London band The Electric headed by producer DJ Vadim. The download is available now at Freddy's Soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/fat-freddys-drop/fat-freddys-drop-vs-the

The focus for Fat Freddy’s Drop on their return home from the Northern Hemisphere will be recording a new studio album. Yeah right.

Presented in association with The Groove Guide. Tickets available from ticketmaster.co.nz and amplifier.co.nz, on Sale From Monday 11th April 2011.
