Great night out and cheap especially on for the amateur nights. Great MC and some really good acts, some not so good, but its all part of the fun. The bar is small and hard to find a seat in before the show. But the show makes up for at all. Nice friendly and intimate feeling club. Recommended

Classic Comedy and Bar is an institution in it's own right and fair to say that it doesn't just go off during the Comedy fest. May not be as sophisticated or classy as other bars, but Classic Comedy & Bar has an awesome atmosphere that I haven't seen matched anywhere else in Auckland. Chur!

Phil Nichol: Comedy Festival 2006
Event at the Classic Studio

Fucking hilarious from start to finish!
Ok, I should probably elaborate ...

Phil Nichol's Nearly Gay centres around him being called a homophobe on stage by a gay comedian for singing his "I'm the only gay Eskimo" song in the early nineties, and apparently, has spent the time since getting into ridiculous situations (and positions) with gay men in his efforts to "not be homophobic".

Nichol's frenetic antics are fast and continuous and one laugh has barely subsided before you're cracked up by the next. His stories are littered with mad characters and his accents and mannerisms are riotous: from London louts, Scots, Aussies, Yanks, and of course, plenty of over-animated gay men.

Delivered at breakneck speed and with unrestrained energy, his tales are a workout for your funnybone. He pulls on a guitar for three or four raucous songs and you notice through the goofing that the dude has a great voice too and rounds off the show with that Eskimo song.

Comedians Dai Henwood and Charlie Pickering sat behind us and seemed to laugh the loudest in the room! My cheek muscles hurt. Highly recommended.
