Delicious meals that don't cost an arm and a leg - Zavito has not let us down yet. Great ambience and friendly staff too - we highly recommend the eye fillet and the baked chicken breast. Don't forget to have the garlic bread pizza too - recommended!
we were given a voucher as a present in start of august 2012. unfortunately we didn’t have a chance to use it, as we left to europe not long after. we came back from our travels and were very excited to have a nice dinner at zavito, as we always enjoyed it there. We’ve rung the restaurant to ask if it would still be possible to use the voucher as it expired 2,5 months ago. The lady on the phone refused to accept the voucher and laughed…we will definitely not be going there again and we are very disappointed EX regulars. The lady was rude, unprofessional and clearly not interested to keep the customer happy. It is very sad as the restaurant used to be great and it just shows what a change it makes when a new management is in.
This long standing very popular restaurant in Mairangi Bay was the subject of a rare dinner with just me and the wife since the baby was born. We were there reasonably early to avoid a rush and was presented with a very grumpy waitress who managed to not smile to any customer during the whole visit. She looked positively angry!
After being ignored long enough to be able to order food and drink together we got some starters, I had scallops which were very good and the wife's garlic pizza bread was equally adequate. The best news of the night was we were seemingly handed over to another waitress who was happy and excellent throughout the night.
The mains arrived and they were massively disappointing. My rare steak was well done, the blue cheese sauce had next to no flavour which even a heavy dosing of salt and pepper didn't fix, my wife ordered the bruschetta and was presented with what looked like a cut up whole pizza base and we couldn't help but laugh at the topping which was in a tiny ramekin! We asked for more and they obliged but it really had to be seen to be believed.
We were silly enough not to learn from our mistakes and because a "night off" is a rarity we went for dessert. The creamy lemon crumble was good in theory but the crumble topping was raw and soft. The brulee was simply terrible, no flavour what so ever.
The whole experience was so disappointing I hear so many good things about the place and was shocked at our experience.
To top the night off it was the most awkward till experience, we pointed at our table and between saying "the table in the corner" and us leaving not a single word was uttered not even goodbye from the grumpy waitress who now manned the till.
Was it just a one off bad experience? I will never know as there will be no return from me!
Nothing beats Zavito's woodfired pizzas. My favourite is the New Delhi. They have a large selection of pizzas ranging from the conventional to the unusual. Who would have thought banana on a savoury pizza could taste so good!
Just a little word of warning though, they are quite large so be prepared to share or doggy bag.
Food is worth the steep prices. Nice and quiet for the family or with the girlfriend
Beautiful blue cheese sauce with steak. Nice friendly staff and excellent service - the manager came out and made me feel comfortable. Zavito Restaurant and Bar is a great place to take family and friends.
A wonderful corner cafe set in Mairangi Bay which probably has the best scallop and bacon salad I've ever tasted!
Zavito has good food, a good wine selection and prompt, friendly service.
It's also great to see a cafe manager getting involved with his customers; it's like you've come to his house for your meal without the worry of wine being spilt on the carpet.
A 'must go' if you're looking for a great meal in the North Shore's Bays.
