Let's face it most of us understand what Wildfire is all about. Its a fancy buffet basically with an apparent Brazilian influence. There are menu options ranging from $39.95 through to in excess of $100 per person.
The menu works like this, breads and dips on arrival (which can be topped up), smaller items like calamari, pasta or vegetables, then its meat, meat and meat all BBQ'd on a giant spit and carved at your table. This is all finished off with dessert which can luckily be taken away and eaten at a later time when your stomach isn't exploding!
The service staff are made up of mainly Hispanic speaking individuals which helps give it a slightly more authentic feeling except when you ask them a question! We asked whether the sausages where pork or beef he said yes sausages. He then proceeded to say yes to beef and pork!
So the food, calamari was really tasty and tender, with fresh vegetables which where a relief. Then the meat, lamb leg, scotch steak, sausages, chicken thighs, offal, and garlic steak, the issue I had was most of the meat was overcooked but generally the standard was acceptable for a good meal.
As above we had to take our desserts with us as we were going to explode! The company was good, the drinks where fine and the food was suffice so not a terrible evening. If your looking for no fuss, risk free food then Wildfire is a decent place to go and consider the cost of not having to eat for the next few days as you would be so full.
There was about 10 of us that went to Wildfire. The whole
experience was great. The food was awesome and seeing
as half were guys, it certainly hit the spot having as much
meat as you wanted. The atmosphere was good, the food was
great and the price was reasonable. Will definately go again.
One of my favorite places to go eat, Its great having the meat carved right onto your plate and very freindly staff....hope to go again soon!
It was exciting times walking into Wildfire, being students there were definate nerves given the price tags- but we were determined. We had heard the words "unlimited meat", and thought its too good to be true.
We decided early on that we would not turn over the "we want meat please" indicator untill we simply had no other choice. What we were given we would eat. There was plenty of vegies available but given the amount of meat on offer its ill-advised to over indulge in that aspect of the meal.
The waiters picked up on what we were upto and the challenge was on. They were determines to break us and we were determined to buck the trend and turn the night out into a relatively economical evening through the amount of meat we could eat. The scene was set, banter started flying around the restaurant and the atmosphere changed. We were interacting with staff and other customers and everyone had a great time.
Id like to think we came out on top given the protein induced shaking we experienced. It was well worth it. Dont think i would suggest the restaurant if you were not particularly hungry or on a student budget, but given the fun we had it will be well worth it every now and then.
Churrascaria
What a great meal- constant supply of real good food. Just a bit noisy but otherwise great
Wildfire Takapuna has just lost two customers forever who love to eat out at least 4 times a week and return to places that make you feel welcome.
My partner and I went to see a movie in Takapuna ands decided to have dinner at Wildfire before that. We went there at 7:15p.m and the guy at the cash counter who was seating guests told us that he could give us a seat by 7:30. He asked us to have a drink at the bar until then. We looked around and found about 5 tables that were free and did not have a reserved sign on it. We then told him that we had to go for a movie by 8pm to which he said, " Sorry guys then I can't help you"!! Wow!! That is one of the worst calls I have ever see someone make. Its such a turn off to go to such places. The management must sack such people, because they could be doing this to many others who wont ever go back to such bad attitudes and continue to loose patronage. We will never ever go back there, and also tell people about how such places intend making more money out of you by making you wait at a bar, trying to make you spend more and also exhibit arrongance when explained our situation. Only a fool would not pick up on this and especailly when I have worked in the industry, Sorry Wildfire, Takapuna, in time you may have to shut down if such bad behaviour continues!
Pretty good dining experience well above average. Great food. Nice being able to try a little of everything! Roast pork with pineapple sauce is to die for. Good atmosphere. Reasonably priced - you get what you pay for.
Dining date 23/6/08
We arrived at Wildfire and i'll be honest i had a negtive mindset over a few things i'd heard which is bad but the two places we wanted to eat so we gave it a crack.
Now it started quite bad when we arrived the manager was manning the door but talking to a friend so we were looked at and ignored for a bit, but we were about to get over that!
The drinks menu simple yet decent, and the food menu extensive and sometimes a little to much information making it a bit confusing.
I kept it simple and went for the completo, which is a three course menu consisting of an array of appetisers, array of mains and a dessert from the dessert trolley.
My Girlfriend is a vegetarian with some allergies so went for a mixture of tapas.
Our waiter who was excellent throughout helped us out with this, Named Ben.
So my side dish of entrees came out, and then the bit i didnt expect, food after food after food, i really liked the style of serveice as soon as your plate was empty a new hot item came out and was served from a platter, the meal continued like this troughout the mains, with a huge rib of beef, lamb, chicken, sausages, pork ribs, the list was endless.
Then i just squeezed in an unspectacular dessert.
I am not a fan of the belt busting means you've had a good night, but wilfire do it quite elegantly and we really enjoyed the atmosphere.
The slight down points was my girlfriends tapas where pretty poor and its a shame really and also the tables are unusually high and it took some getting used to, other than that great job keep it up!!!
