Called in on Friday night for a dinner meal.
Chose the Verona special of the day fish with salmon $28.50 and what arrived was an entree size portion with 1 x tiny pan fried fritter, 2 x tiny scrapings of salmon with 1 x very small piece of fish all hidden under lots of tossed salad greens.
The house white wine was so bad I had to comment to the waitress about it and she admitted it was old stock they were trying to get rid of. They should have tipped it down the sink, out or at best used for cooking.
Verona Cafe was very disappointing and I won't bother to return.
I had a memorable night out at Cafe Verona recently - it's a cool intimate space with funky art, beautiful lamps and an eclectic collection of eastern artifacts dotted around the walls- small buddha statues, maybe the owner is into Eastern religion !
Had a great pizza, thin crust which I prefer, and tasty but not too much topping, staff were attentive and friendly..
Nice inhouse music, good beats and the Jazz band came on mid evening - awesome cool grooves, its a trio with a kick ass drummer, a very 'in the pocket' bass player and a guy that plays a kind of giant xylophone and keyboards..A different jazz sound than I've ever heard before but very enjoyable !!
Will definitely go back on a Wednesday night for more jazz and pizza
Verona has been through some changes. Some of you will remember the 'funky' crowd of a few years back who now seem to have moved on. It’s a bit of a shame, as this has caused a bit of a fizzle at Verona. The food has slipped back as well - I ordered a chicken breast, but was served more skin and bone than one would care to devour. The wine list is limited and the kitchen staff enjoyed eating with their hands while cooking right in front of our table. I would not be going back to Verona in a hurry.
