Vauxhall Cafes' proximity to Cheltenham Beach makes it the perfect stop for pre or post walk coffees - a meritorious explanation for the abundance of Phil n Teds and minatiures of the canine variety. An open space, atmosphere is non-descript however the presense of some well worn almanacs and one very interesting book dedicated to live music posters (Art of Modern Rock), will have more than a few hanging around for longer than intended.

Relaxed and super-friendly, Vauxhall's young employees could teach others in the trade a thing or two. Waters were brought to the table (unnecessary in such a small venue but well received all the same), and our little-ones fluffy was delivered with a 'here you go darling' - she felt very special!

In a word - fantastic. Altezano roast, smooth blend and nice and strong ... the perfect incentive to get out early on the weekend.

The toasted banana loaf is a likely candidate - light and moist, the simple offering is made all the more pleasant with accompanying yogurt and plum compote and at $4.50, a necessity. The menu is in fact one of the smallest going, but there's a few other gems worth exploring (yes, macaroon cakes - that means you).

The Bottom Line
Despite the menu limitations, Vauxhall Cafe is easily one of the best cafe/eateries in the area. No illusions of grandeur, just a warm, friendly atmposhere coupled with comforting food and above all else, great coffee.

A Reason to Return
With the North Shore still enjoying fantastic sunshine (at time of writing mid-April swimming is still an option), get up early, get energized with a brisk walk along Cheltenham Beach and re-coup at Vauxhall Cafe. Who said fitness couldn't be enjoyable?
