Well as the former owners Hayden & Tamara sadly say good bye to New Zealand and their fantastic little Pt Chevalier local, Twisted Tomato. Its with great sadness that I write this. I hear the premise has been bought and turned into just another cafe in the area, what a sad time for the neighbourhood.

On their last night we booked our group of 14 in to enjoy the last opportunity to eat their scrumptious fares.
The best entree on the night was without a doubt the mushroom risotto. There was some envy at the table from those that did not have it. For mains I had the snapper with mussles which was fresh, tasty and perfectly presented.

There were four desserts on the blackboard, I chose the Sticky Toffee Pudding (which I remember having on my first visit one year ago) served this time with Black beer icecream. The pomegranate and molasses meringue shards decorating it were absolutely exquisite.

The service was outstanding, too. Our meals arrived with precision timing regardless of the size group. Tamara treated us more like friends than customers. I am very sad to say I can't go back. I will watch with anticipation for their return to the Auckland foodie scene. All the best Hayden & Tamara.

Pt Chevalier needs to sort its act out as there is little reason to go over there if it wasn’t for Twisted Tomato. Hopefully this is the start of good things to come. The restaurant, which started life as a cafe and now pitches itself as a "local eatery" and I can tell that the patrons looked like regulars who don’t want to loose a good thing in this restaurant.

Run by the lovely Tamara and her German chef husband, Thomas, who comes via TriBeCa in Parnell, the service and cuisine are professional and friendly.

The little eatery was full by 8pm as there were only 6 tables seating 4 each.

It was a shame I was not overly hungary as the entrees my friends had looked great, I really should try the terrine or Burrata next time, very generous portions.

For mains I had the duck leg, which, came with beetroot, cocoa and ginger puree and potato pancakes. It was very tasty. A friend chose the sirloin steak, which was also a generous size and she said perfectly cooked.

The service was outstanding, too. Our meals arrived with precision timing, Tamara, who treated us more like friends than customers.
There were four desserts on the blackboard, I had the Sticky Toffee Pudding with ice cream. It was heavy and rich but as I hadn’t had two courses and I am a sweet tooth I polished it all off where others struggled. I loved it.

My friends has already dined there before and even though its not close to home I would definitely go again.

Ive posted this elsewhere but needed to share because of our wonderful experience. Twisted Tomato was fully booked when we rang for my partners birthday, however the lovely staff said they would make us up a table outside. When we got there the sun was low in the sky and quite blinding – so instead of having us seated outside squinting away they gave us a table inside. It just got better and better from there on!The service was excellent, attentive, warm and not intrusive.Apertisers were delicious, entree’s were divine and the mains were wonderful!Good portion sizes and all beautifully presented. The Chef is talented.A well appointed wine list added the perfect touch. At this stage we were happily satisfied customers not needing anything else. However as everything that we had eaten was so good we thought maybe a wee look at the dessert menu was in order. What we ordered, even though we were quite full was devoured as it was dangerously good! The owner (Im sure her name was Tamara) was delightful and a wonderful host with a genuine smile.I will be recommending Twisted Tomato to all my friends and family and will be going back to try the rest of the menu and soak up the atmosphere.
