Turkish Cafe Ponsonby

Lovely waitress but truly the worst food I have ever had the misfortune to eat.. My moussaka tasted like it had come from the freezer and microwaved to death..it was dry and chewy! Definitely won't be returning to Turkish Cafe.

I tried this venue this week and was happy enough, I quite like Turkish style food and they didn't dissapoint. I enjoyed sitting outside and watching the world go by for a while. Staff pleasant enough, thenks Turkish Cafe.

My partner and I are both vegetarians. My meal at the Turkish Cafe in Ponsonby came out as ordered, but my partner's meal was a Mousaka that actually had meat in it! We only realised after we had eaten a bit and thought it tasted funny.


The waiter argued with us and told us that it could not possibly be meat - but then could not tell us what was supposed to be in the vege mousaka! Anyway after a long wait, another one came out to replace it - this time with vegetables in it!


We were offered a free orange juice for the ordeal. At the end, we requested to see the manager and asked that the meal be taken off the bill. We stated that we would get sick off the meal (I have not eaten meat for seven years). The manager offered no sympathy and glared at us. He stated that a free orange juice was enough.


After more pushing, he agreed to take 40% off (we thought off the bill). He actually increased the price of the mousaka - which we noticed, and also added on the 'free' orange juice to the bill! And ... to top it off, he'd only taken 40% off the mousaka itself. I would seriously recommend no vegetarians go here as you can guarantee to be served up meat!
