Went with a friend in September during RWC for lunch. Quite empty which was good considering how packed everywhere else was and we were able to get a seat. Should have been a warning sign.
There were 2 tables (including us) that were eating. Both tables and a few of us sent our food back. Perhaps it was a new chef that didn't know how to cook or maybe we caught them on a bad day. Either way we paid for our food because the front of house staff were apologetic, replaced our plates with more bad food and were eager to please. Poor buggars having to front poor quality plates. On that note, I have since been back to drink and it was fun but not eat and isn't somewhere I would suggest friends to go for meals. The toilets, well you'd need to consume a lot of booze before being able to use them.
The Thirsty Dog is the best pub in Auckland!Great music, best Guinness, yummy food, great staff and a relaxed atmosphere.
Thirsty Dog is the most unpretentious down to earth pub in Auckland. The owner is an awesome dude, easy to talk to and the customer is king. Totally feel-good-making-sense-kinda-bar!
thank you Auckland!
Thirsty Dog is a great little bar with happy and friendly staff, excellent service - been a regular for some years. Excellent food … surprised by negative feedback, but suppose you can’t please all the people all the time. Ten out of ten in my books.
Fantastic bar. Good vibes, great music, friendly down-to-earth staff with good senses of humour. Have always been made to feel welcome and have enjoyed conversations to be had with the interesting range of punters. The Thirsty Dog is highly recommended for those wishing to escape the pompous scene that other bars have to offer.
Good little pub. If you're going to a gig at Studio down the road, the Thirsty Dog is the place to go for a few warm-up beers first.
Awful. My friend ordered food and it arrived burnt. She sent it back and when the replacement meal came, the meat was cold and frozen inside (must be difficult to use a microwave). She asked for her money back and the manager rudely slapped $20 on the table and walked off.
When we asked him for an explanation he said, "You've got your money back, what else do you want?" A very rude and offensive manager, we shall not return to the Thirsty Dog again.
