Had high hopes of a good meal on the 21st, which was a Thursday and was looking forward to their special that night: Angus Steak 350gram $18.90 served with hand cut fries and your choice of jus, garlic butter or hollandaise from 5.30-9.30pm (so The Merchant Bar ad claimed). First disappointment after we arrived at 7.30pm, was when, after being seated, they informed us that they had "run out" of steaks and therefore could not serve the special. That to us is ludicrous as it is tantamount to false advertisement. The ad clearly states that the special is available from 5.30 - 9.30pm. We elected to have burgers instead but a friend in our party of four had her heart set on a good steak; so she ordered one at regular price ($32). This came (medium rare) but was as tough as leather; huge disappointment! Her meal was eventually swapped for a burger as well and offered at no charge to her.Service was mediocre and serving staff were not attentive. One of the worst dining experiences I have had. What a let down!
Great atmosphere every time I come here, Great place to relax and enjoy a wine on a summers afternoon - nice outside area. Great food although slightly pricey. Overall a great place to catch up with friends and family!
This is my go-to restaurant in Albany. The atmosphere is always amazing, the staff are great and with the new summer menu, you can''t beat it! The Merchant now has trivia nights which are great fun and worth a try.
I like The Merchant. They have amazing Chicken burgers, and their pizza's are top-notch. As well as their fries. Their prices are fairly decent, considering the portions. I also like their hot chocolates.
I met a friend ay Merchant Bar on a Sunday, it wasn’t too busy, so a nice atmosphere. The re-fit looks great, and service was OK (1x lovely waitress, another OK, but not overly friendly) the reason for the 3 stars is the food. We ordered a bread and dips, which was good, however, after asking how many prawns were on the entree size ($16.90) and being told the waitress was more than happy to ask the chef, she returned stating 6x prawns on the entree size. Upon receiving the dish, we were served with a meal comprising a few pieces of melon, a Potato Rosti and 4x prawns. For 16.90 we definitely expected more, especially after being told we would receive more.
Overall: Food: disappointing, but I would go back to Merchant Bar & Kitchen and give it another chance, as the service was OK and nice atmosphere.
Had lunch here last week and found the food to be really good. Big sizes and it came out pretty quick. good selection of beers and drinks too. will be back to Merchant Bar and Kitchen!
The Merchant Bar & Kitchen offers fantastic food and really enjoyed catching the last rays of afternoon sun on their deck with a cold one. Glad for the change up from reservoir
Poor service the waitress have attitude issues. I wouldn't return to the Merchant Bar and Kitchen again.
