We had intended to catch up with friends at the Oratia Farmers Market over the weekend but foul weather put paid to that - so while out west thought we'd give the luscious food store a whirl.
Both sets of families have young kids and we'd heard a lot of good things about this cafe - superb play area, when the sun did finally come out the kids were all over it.
This was all backed up by good food too - the big breakfast with westmere sausage was tremendous - still on the pricey side but good all the same.
The Luscious Food Store was quite busy and I can imagine come finer days, this place is popular - get there early!
The Luscious Food Store is AMAZING if you have little kids! I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old and it is the best place I have found to meet friends and relax while also keeping the kids happy.There is a sandpit, blackboard, trolley, flat fenced and grassed area for the kids to play and you can choose to sit on mats on the grass to eat or sit at tables (with plenty of lovely highchairs to go around).The food is delicious and well priced and they also do a sandwich platter which is great for the kids - they get a handful of potato chips, grated carrot, ham, cheese, lovely bread and little bowls of marmite and butter so they can make their own sandwich or snack on all the pieces.Such a well thought out place - I hope to meet the owner of Luscious and say thank you personally one day!
Just returned from a visit to The Luscious Food Store in Te Atatu with my young family. Even though it was mid morning, the fresh sandwiches looked so mouthwatering that both my partner and I had the Meatloaf and beetroot sandwiches...excellent choices!
Luscious Food Store is great for those with kids (school holidays meant it was packed mind you) - the only thing that puts me off slightly is the ledge between the play area/grass and a concrete floor - but you should keep a close eye on your kids anyway so no real gripe there!
We went to The Luscious Foodstore in Te Atatu today for brunch.
A lovely sunny day, the cafe staff moved an extra table outside for us, offered us water and explained we needed to order at the counter when we were ready.
The menu was varied and interesting, using seasonal ingredients. I ordered the Winter Greens as a side to my Pea and Ham soup. The broad beans were smoked creating a nice flavour for someone who doesn't usually like broad beans. My partner had the slow-roasted lamb filled Pita Pockets, which he loved saying the authentic flavours reminded him of a holiday a Morocco.
The coffee was good and strong and as well as the usual selections of teas, there was hot toddy, which was a welcome addition and went beautifully with the gorgeous tangy lemon slice.
We really enjoyed our brunch on a bust Saturday afternoon and will definitely be back.

The Luscious Food Store is an awesome cafe and very much needed out this way. The food is excellent - and they have a great kids menu as well. I'd recommend the big brekkie and also the breakfast wrap is good too. The coffee is really good and popular as a takeout with the locals. Friendly staff and a nice big area to relax in. I definitely recommend this place!
