The only thing interesting about this place is actually the inside and the decoration, but that's all. The food is average and the service is very slow. It's an euphemism to say that some of the staff members are unfriendly.
That's a shame cause this place has a great potential.

This new concept is really nice. We feel that the project is evolving.
Combine clothes, rugby atmosphere and restaurant is really daring, and we love it!

It is certain that I will come to watch the rugby match and spend a good time there :)

The House of Rugby is the perfect place to watch the rugby games, the atmosphere is nice. Being immersed in an atmosphere of rugby while watching a match, what more?

Personally, I loved the fish and chips!

I'll come back FOR SURE !
Good luck :)

i agree with everything the last reviewer said regarding last nights ABs game at the house of rugby.

Underwhelmed by the memorabilia but also the horrible service received. For me the biggest problem was the state and smell of the toilets.

Don't think ill be able to watch another game there. Might just stay home!

Thoroughly disappointing time this weekend for the game. Bad service where i was told that i could not order off the menu offered cos of the game despite being handed the menu. The waitress then asked one of our group to shut up so she could take the order. Very stressed lady.

Food was terrible and cutlery was unwashed and will never return.

LOTS OF FRUIT FLIES

We had been to the House of Rugby 3 or 4 times prior to our visit in the weekend. Each time we found the food to be fast and tasty. The service was also always very good. However it looks like there have been some changes.

The menu is different and the staff have all changed. It seems as though it is now mainly all french natives who work here. Which didnt bother me except i could not understand what she was saying and at the same time she was getting frustrated not being able to understand me. This culminated in woman asking very rudely " well what you want" and "im busy". (The venue had about 9 people present)

When the food arrived, after a 90 minute wait, it was dumped on our table, no offer for further drinks or add ons, no did she want to know how i meals were. There was no sorry for the wait or no explanation why it took so long. Half of our plates were cold and in my case the chicken was still pink inside.

Very very unhappy and disappointed and will not be returning any time soon.

I felt compelled to leave a review after visiting The House of Rugby Last night. Firstly, i want to state i wasn't exactly wow'd by the memorabilia display and apparel. Small range of clothing and the same is to be said for the so called memorabilia. HOWEVER, everything from here got better!!!The food, although took a little bit of time, was hot and fresh. When i think of a rugby based venue I think of full warm meals, and that is exactly what we got!! And we had a big table!!! The service from our waitress and bar staff amazing and the manager, who conversed with us all knowledgeably about rugby was excellent and maintained an overall excellent service! Would absolutely visit The House Of Rugby again!!!

I was begrudgingly forced to attend the house of rugby on the weekend to watch the test for the all blacks v france. I initially went into the venue imagining a tacky and cheesy place much like the old rugby hall of fame on albert street. However I was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere, with about 200 people was exciting and lively. We arrived a little late so all the tables were taken as were the stadium seating, however we found ourselves a space on the amazing grass field area which was surprisingly very comfortable thanks to the rubber base. Waitress’s served us with great speed and our drinks arrived cold and promptly thus making this picnic style dining for us while watching the game near perfect. The food surprisingly was hot and very tasty, In particular the stuffed chicken breast and the fresh fish of the day.

I would recommend this venue and look forward to the test this Saturday as we absolutely will attend again

Easily the best rugby bar in Auckland for my mind. Interesting concept - the House of Rugby is a bit like that rugby-themed 'thingee' that used to be on Queen Street a few decades ago...
Big screens and plenty of room - nice to see the memorabilia around the walls - really puts things into perspective as to how much footy means to kiwis.
Well done House of Rugby on an interesting concept - hopefully Aucklanders turn out and appreciate it!

I went to the House of Rugby last night to watch the All Blacks vs France game on the large projector screen. There would have been a crowd of about 60-70. Approx. 25 seated at the rear "stadium style" seats, 25 of us on the green "lawn" carpet at the front and others scattered around the perimeter and towards the small bar cum seating/eating area to the side when you come in the front door. On the plus, the waiters and staff bought drinks to where we were seated, they were friendly, prompt with serving our drinks and welcoming. The green recycled "lawn grass" at the front was comfortable to sit on and spacious. There were also 2 exterior heaters for smoking patrons outside the front door area.On the negative side - people were continually crossing in front of the projector screen and I found that IRRITATING. I think the screen is mounted too low, and the area in front of the screen has to be cordoned off to stop that happening and the terraced seating should be steeper and much BIGGER to accommodate more people and set out like a proper stadium. We drank flat, warm lemonade that had too much ice in it to cool it down and paid $4 per glass for the privilege. There were no ashtrays outside for cigarette butts.Overall, I found it a good experience but needs improvement. The noise from the patrons cheering is VERY LOUD for the neighbouring apartment dwellers like my sister, so not sure how this will impact on the business long-term!
