So I’ve been to Foodstore before earlier this year and had a good experience. This time not so much.
First of all we were seated near the kitchen which was great to be able to watch the chefs. I can’t manage 3 courses so I opted for something I saw on the dessert menu that sounded great instead of an entrée.
Only thing is I was starving by the time my main arrived and then it was sadly dried up and hard. I didn’t want to send it back and risk eating my own arm from hungar and everyone else finishing before I finally got to eat, leaving me to eat on my own.
I had ordered the chicken which thankfully came with a nice gnocchi with mushrooms. However the chicken breast had been crucified. It was dry and hard and could seriously concuss the chef had I thrown it at him.
An offer to remake it was made but nothing else so I was cheeky enough to ask for my wine free and they agreed. I think avoid ordering chicken if you go there. I was disappointed how young and inexperienced the kitchen staff looked.
My dessert of caramel Pannacotta was nice but strange with mango sorbet which just didn’t go.
The ambiance was good and the staff pleasant enough and I think everyone else had good meals. It’s definitely not in my top 20 restaurants and I might not hurry back.
enjoyed dinner at The Foodstore last week after visiting friends from out of town had seen the tv series and were keen to experience it for themselves. I hadn't been before to be honest so keen to try it out also.
My choice of the smoked venison loin was awesome and the only fault was that it was on the smaller side I thought. The creamed paua that I had a taste of was also really flavoursome - it's not cheap, but where in the Viaduct is?
I would definitely recommend a visit to the Foodstore - good service too which makes the difference!
We spent quite a few hours at the bar in The Foodstore on Saturday afternoon and evening as it was a convenient spot for a pre-rugby meet up for our out of town friends. Along with four children we scored a great spot in the bar area - raised above the restaurant - and the staff were kind enough to put the horse racing on the TV while we relaxed for the afternoon.
Waitstaff kept the drinks flowing and brought out a selection of bar food including chicken wings, nachos, ribs, fish and chips (delicious) and salt and pepper squid which kept kids and adults alike happy.
After such success we decided to return after the game and again were lucky enough to get a great spot in the bar where the kids were served hot chocolate and the adults another round of wine. The food and wine selection at The Foodstore is great, but I was most impressed that the staff were happy to have the kids there (they were very well behaved!) and provided really good service. It's a great spot to watch the Saturday afternoon sport with a nibble and a drink or relax after dinner. The bar closed at 1.15am. I'll try the restaurant next time too!
After viewing numerous menus we settled on The FoodStore and wow what a wonderful start to our "husband free, girls" weekend in Auckland. The staff were so helpful from start to finish, the meals we had were incredible. Lamb starter, the chicken and fish for our mains was melt in your mouth and as for dessert - awesome. Thank you FoodStore, we had a great time and will definitely be back. You guys are awesome.

I was intending to go elsewhere in the Viaduct but after walking past the foodstore this afternoon, the beautiful smells from the kitchen lured me in.
Welcomed enthusiastically by the staff and sat outside on the glorious day with my partner. The drinks menu is huge and there's a good selection of wine on offer. As a meal, the steak I had (after already smelling it earlier) was delicious.
I hadn't really thought of the Foodstore as a restaurant destination but after todays experience, will do so from here on in.
Two visits down, many more to come.
First visit was a casual weekend lunch, where we were completely surprised and wowed by the ambience of the place, enthralled watching the chefs and taken aback by the superb service, food and setting. I can honestly say best service I've ever had.
Last night saw a group of 7 of us for dinner, 5 of them non-locals and all left full, delighted and raving about the awesome atmosphere and delicious food.
Not necessarily the best place for conversation if you're sitting inside - it's too easy to get distracted watching the chefs and the TV screens which feed from cameras overlooking the kitchen, but that in itself becomes a talking point. Watching your meals get made to such a high standard in a buzzy setting is great.
So far I can recommend the roast chicken, gnocchi, steaks and others recommended the fish dishes too.
I'll be back many many times - it'll be around for awhile I'm sure!
Wow - what a fantastic experience...never quite been a part of anything like it before.
Had heard about The Foodstore (is it Julie Christies?) on another site and they were gushing - now I can see why.
Do get down to the viaduct and head to The Foodstore - well worth your while.
