The Best Takeaway Lunches
If we're allowed off our lunchtime leash, there are a few spots we head to so we can grab something to take back to our desks - though sometimes we do end up in the local supermarket buying the same tired looking sandwiches. The places below, though, are our minds' refuges - something to look forward to when we've had a morning of setbacks, our stomach's are rumbling and we're beginning to get a bit frazzled...
Il Buco CBD
35C Vulcan Lane, Auckland
A contender for Auckland's best pizza, for twelve years Il Buco has been serving up delicious pizza by the slice from it's unassuming Ponsonby Road location. Fast forward to mid 2014 and the news that our favourite little slice of Italy could now be found in the CBD as well couldn't have been sweeter to the ear, or as it transpires, the palate.

Chuffed
43 High Street, Auckland, 1010
Complimenting its full menu of delicious meals is a well-stocked counter. From the pulled pork and coleslaw on turkish to the hot, tasty soup or pear and dark chocolate muffins, all are lunch time favourites for the many office workers descending on Chuffed each day. For those with a sweet tooth, there's plenty of Nana's baking to enjoy. Shortbread, afghans, brownies galore to accompany an excellent cup of coffee.

Giles Luncheonette
21 Shortland Street, Auckland
Shortland street workers are already spoilt for choice and are typically a discerning bunch. When lunch time queues go out the door at Giles Luncheonette, you know something's up. Cheese and ham off the bone sounds plain, but topped with a tasty mustard sauce and grilled to perfection takes it to another level. For those on a health kick kale smoothies, tasty salads or the beet bircher - oats soaked in freshly juiced beetroot and pear with mozarella yoghurt is a must.

Mondays Wholefoods Kitchen
503B New North Road, Auckland, 1021
Kingsland has never looked so healthy! Riding a wave of popularity, owners Hannah and Eleanor have put their passion into practice with Monday's Wholefoods - a pretty wee cafe that's as easy on the eye as it is on your health. Grab a salad and feel smug as your colleagues look at you with envy.

Bian Sushi and Donburi
Shop 2, 33 - 45 Hurtmere Road, Auckland, 0630
If you're willing to (a) find (and pay) for a car park, (b) walk some distance and (c) prepare to queue in an orderly fashion just for sushi then it's got to be decent. Thankfully Takapuna's Bian Sushi is well worth all that effort. Fresh, well priced sushi and the prospect of relaxing on the grass over-looking Rangitoto...a lunch time well spent we say.

Farro
70 Parkway Drive, Auckland, 0630
OK, so Constellation Drive might be a bit of a stretch for most office workers but if you find yourself in the vicinity, a visit to Farro Fresh is a given. Easily accessible, the deli range here is quite remarkable. Healthy or indulgent Farro does it all well. Our favourite combo? The udon noodle salad, washed down with a salted caramel tart. For balance, obviously.

Scullery
166 Karangahape Road, Auckland
We're big fans of cafe menus that really push the envelope and in Scullery, we've found one fits this bill perfectly. Salads, smoothies or slices, Scullery was one of our finds of 2013 and it's still going strong.

Best Ugly Bagels
City Works Depot, 77 Cook Street, Auckland, 1010
The humble bagel has never been so appetising after it's had the Al Brown treatment. Located in the uber-cool City Works Depot (and more recently in Newmarket's York St), hungry lunch-goers are confronted with a variety of plain and filled options but for us, there is only one flavour combination. All hail 'The Yodi'.
