The Best Restaurants With A View
Despite a stunning waterfront and harbour, there are surprisingly few restaurants in Auckland that take advantage of the view. Here's our pick of the restaurants that do:
Cable Bay Vineyards & Restaurant
12 Nick Johnstone Drive, Oneroa, Auckland
Google 'Cable Bay Winery' now and you'll see why it's easily one of the best restaurant views in Auckland. A main building which work perfectly with the surroundings leading out to a rolling expanse of lawn which tailings off in front of a stunning view of the harbour, Rangitoto and the city far in the distance. Exquisite food and exceptional wine make this a breathtaking experience.

The Sugar Club
Level 53, Sky Tower, Federal Street, Auckland
Orbit used to win the best view by default, but whilst The Sugar Club doesn't rotate, it's definitely has taken the mantle of best view of Auckland. Plush surroundings only add to the atmosphere, and with a selection of plates from Peter Gordon's stunning menu, you're set for a great night.

Ostro Restaurant & Bar
Seafarers Building, 52 Tyler St, Britomart, Auckland, 1010
The newest restaurant on the list, just kicking off the previous 'Best View from Britomart' holder, Tyler St Garage. If you can get a table, get outside and enjoy the stunning view of the port and Devonport. The owners obviously knew they were onto a good thing as there are windows for walls everywhere. There are actually two views you can choose from - the rooftop bar has a good view of the hustle and bustle of Takutai Square.

Level 1, 147 Quay Street, Princes Wharf, Auckland, 1010
The least hotel-y hotel restaurant in Auckland, we're big fans of the outdoor dining area at the tip of the hotel. Whilst previously it's been a bit windy, they have added outdoor windows that mean that you can dine without your napkin flying down down Princes Wharf. Nothing like eating great seafood right next to the water.

Mercure Auckland, 8 Customs Street East, Britomart, Auckland, 106-660
Another hotel restaurant and perhaps one you wouldn't automatically think of, but Vue Restaurant on the top floor of the Mercure has a solid menu to match its views of the harbour and city. Make sure you ask for a table right next to the window.

Te Whau Vineyard Restaurant
218 Te Whau Drive, Auckland
Grab a spot on the balcony of Te Whau’s dramatic and stylish hilltop home and gaze back across the Hauraki Gulf to the Skytower, Auckland’s CBD and Rangitoto Island. Te Whau’s international reputation as one of New Zealand’s best vineyard restaurants is definitely well-earned.
