The Best Chinese Restaurants
After years of terrible gloop hiding nondescript meat, Auckland now boasts some of the best Chinese restaurants in the land, with everything from fine dining and poncey affairs to properly authentic spots that take your tongue off with their searing chilli heat. Chinese restaurants aren’t necessarily for everyone though, especially those places that serve up those really traditional dishes (dry fried pork intestines, anyone?), but there’s definitely enough choice, not least from the selection we’ve chosen as the best Chinese restaurants in Auckland.
The Blue Breeze Inn
146 Ponsonby Road, Ponsonby Central, Auckland
There’s a growing awareness of regional Chinese cuisine in Auckland, and The Blue Breeze Inn is a stylish, hip and fun alternative to the more simple family-owned eateries now punctuating the city.

Canton Cafe
477 New North Road, Auckland, 1021
Vibrant, loud, cheap and cheery - this Kingsland icon has garnered a reputation for fantastic, authentic food at prices that ensure you'll be a frequent visitor. Don't expect your dining experience to be a long and drawn out one - you're there for a good time not a long time.

Jade Dragon
SKYCITY Auckland, Cnr Victoria & Federal Streets, Auckland, 1010
Whether it's Yum Cha or A La Carte that you're after, SkyCity's Jade Dragon is without question one of the region's best Chinese eateries. We thoroughly recommend visiting with a large group, sharing their food but keeping your order of the Imperial Beef to yourself - you'll see why!

Xuxu Dumpling Bar
Britomart, Commerce Street, Auckland, 1010
The combination of a great space, a decent drinks selection and some rather tasty dumplings has seen this Britomart hotspot become a go-to for after-work eats or a tasty excuse to get away from the desk for the areas corporate drones. The dumplings may be more expensive than what you're used to in the 'burbs but hey, we are talking Britomart y'know.

Chop Chop Noodle House
Ponsonby Central, 140 Ponsonby Road, Auckland, 1011
Inspired by hole-in-the-wall noodle bars and Thai beach shack restaurants, Chop Chop has a coolly casual vibe with shared seating around a bustling open kitchen. Kung fu pop culture references crash and bang with country music – actually very big in Thailand if you're wondering – and the whole set up is loads of fun.

Grand Harbour Chinese Restaurant
Viaduct Harbour, Cnr Pakenham and Custom Street West, Auckland, 1010
Auckland is a city with no shortage of Asian restaurants - competition is tight but after nearly fifteen years, perennial favourite Grand Harbour is still near the top of anyone who's anyone's 'best-of' list - we think this is testament in itself.
