If I could, I would give Tasca in Vulcan Lane less than one star. Their food is nothing special, but not terrible either. Where they really fall down is on service! I went there with friends for after-work drinks and Tapas. We ordered our food from the grumpy guy at the the counter and were waiting for some time, when he (quite rudely) asked us to change tables because they were expecting people to come in for dinner. If that was the case, why did he seat us there to start with? We felt this was an inconvenience, but we obliged, only to be told by other waitstaff that the table we had been moved to was also a "premium dinner table". They wanted us to move again, and only let us stay when we threatened to cancel our now long-awaited tapas. When it arrived, we asked for a knife to spread the dips that came with our bread and dips only to be told by the same rude waiter that they have a policy of not providing cutlery for dips. Overall, I might have understood if they had been run off their feet with dinner traffic, but we were one of only two full tables in the whole restaurant, and I can see why. The service was truly appalling, and we will not be going back! I will also warn all my friends to avoid this Tasca, as it certainly is not up to the standards of the others.

The Tasca Cafe has come a long way and it is now serving some of the best coffee in Auckland under the guidance of Chris Priestly formerly the owner of the Award winning Atomic cafe .The food is absolutely wonderful and in good proportions .Mexican ,Spanish slightly Kiwi , well this is a unique cafe .It is not main stream and unlike many over seas cafes and eating houses it is family run .Yes it has to hire staff .Tasca New-market is a similar kind of place .I have noticed lots of tourists go to the Tasca mainly because of its pleasant environment .After completing the meal , many I have noted make a very positive statement about the food and the service . Most if not all cafes have their not so good moments and that is because they are run by human beings .At Tasca I believe that the staff do their best .I recommend Tasca Upper Vulcan Lane I like it . I have google+ it. I recommend the roast chicken salad , the pizza's, well just about any thing on the menu .

I've only been to Tasca a few times and I must admit, my visits have been fairly fleeting ones either after work or on a bit of a bar crawl. For Tapas, I don't think you can go past La Zeppa but Tasca does put up some healthy competition and has got better on each of my visits. I shall return!
