Takapuna Beach Cafe & Store Information

The famed Takapuna Beach Cafe sits on Takapuna Beach, North Shore, Auckland.

It already has the upper hand of a great location that not every cafe would have on its side, but Takapuna Beach Cafe amps it up even more with food that even central Auckland city people would traipse over for.

Takapuna Beach Cafe & Store isn't only famous for its impeccable brunch and lunch food, but also for that exciting selections available in its shop section that does takeaways, pre-prepared gourmet food-to-go and what some claim to be the best gelato in Auckland. And if it isn't possible to love the Takapuna Beach Cafe & Store even more, they'd prepare a custom Gourmet Picnic Basket for you with advanced booking, in case you want to eat on the beach itself instead!

My sister took me for my birthday lunch on Saturday. We ate outside with lovely views. We had salmon and poached egg on quinoa pancakes and beetroot and ginger frappe. Really delicious and beautifully presented. Service was first rate although there were many patrons.

I was given a voucher here and used it for a Takeaway meal for my partner and I. I had a Snapper dish which came with greens and a nice sauce, I loved it and would buy again. My partner had a Beef Burger, he said it was just ok and quite tasteless. We also got a little cake each and we both loved the Pecan Tart/Pie, it was delicious! I didn't actually realise until I was looking at the menu that the same meals that are on the Dine in menu are more expensive than the same meal on the Takeaway menu. Saying that, the place itself is beautiful and has a lovely view. I found the two french staff to be extremely helpful and friendly.

The original and still the best! Walked my dog along Takapuna beach this morning and couldn't help but be suckered in for a coffee and a brioche which is the perfect way to warm up on a brisk winters morning.
Takapuna Beach Cafe was heaving which is not uncommon (infact - I would have been to this cafe 3-4 times this year alone and it's never once been partly empty) - this people, is a sign!
And for dog walkers - they've even been considerate (intelligent) enough to cater for your chums with water troughs and leash stakes...the subtle touches make all the difference in my opinion!

I have just purchased a very expensive take-away meal at The Store and having sat down at the tables and eaten half of my meal I was approached by a member of staff who said that I wasn't able to eat at the tables and would I move. Being half way through my meal I declined to move. Next came another staff member who said that if I didn't move I would be charged an extra significant amount per meal. Please be aware eating at The Store is not for the faint hearted. I feel angry, hurt and ashamed to be a local of this establishment. I have used The Store weekly at least since it opened but not any more. If this is how they treat people who are regulars I hate to think how tourists are treated. Interestingly I have tried to post a comment on The Stores website but this facility isn't available. I wonder why?

Stopped by here a month or two ago when we were in the area, because we've heard the name mentioned a lot. Love the location! It's a shame they're not licensed it would be a great place to sit on the deck with a wine and that view. We shared the lamb tagine & couscous and it was amazing. The decor is pretty sweet too, would love to try breakfast here sometime. A shame it's on the other side of the bridge!

I have to say I'm a fussy eater yet I've become a regular here, and I live in Sandringham. The choice on the menu is good though I do hope they change it regularly. Generally we've had good service. For me, Takapuna Beach Cafe loses points for cramming too many people into the space available which is a shame because it is in an excellent location. Auckland urgently needs more waterview/beachside eateries!!!

We went to Takapuna Beach Cafe for lunch on a Friday and felt a bit let down. Having only read good reviews I was expecting a lot more than was delivered. It was busy so our group of three were put on a table clearly only suitable for two and right near the cashier. The waiting staff were a mixed bunch - we encountered five different staff during the course of the meal. One particular girl had a very bad attitude which came across clearly in her rude manner. The omelette, while tasty, was overcooked and came without the bacon which was ordered. The mushrooms were cold and the bread, which was supposed to be sourdough but it was grainy bread, was soggy. The chicken salad was the only winning meal on this day and the mango and coconut smoothie was also good. Overall it really doesn't deserve a three, but a two is too low.

Weekday lunch, very busy and not much room to sit. Tables for 2 were used for 3 and made it a bit cramped. Our order obviously went missing and after 30 minutes, other people who arrived later were having their meals served. Waitress did go and find out what happened but instead of offering an apology we were told no point complaining, that's how it is, tough luck!! We both found that approach rather rude! The food which then arrived soon after was only ok-ish. Cheese on omelet was melted but had a watery puddle on top, onions were not not that nice either and we left rather disappointed.

This cafe is a pleasure to visit. The staff are very welcoming and personable, and the use of the lobster to tell you when a table is free allows you to appreciate the local scenery while waiting.

Service is excellent with a broad range of food and drinks to satisfy even the fussiest eater. The portabello mushrooms were seasoned well, and the kitchen delivered promptly. The barrista is incredible and I will be frequenting this cafe again and again!

Dined here with a group of 7, the food selection was excellent - something for everyone! The service was friendly & prompt.

You can dress casual or dress up & wouldnt feel out of place.

You could also order food from 'The Store' cabinet & have it brought through to the restaurant side.

Views are amazing & the restaurant is light & bright with a trendy, swish decor.

The cakes are delicious & they do boxed meals to take away such as Prawn & Zucchini Fritters with Chilli Citrus Jam, Smoked Fish Croquettas with a Green Olive Tapenade & a Grilled Squid & Corizo Skewers with Coriander Paste...Yum!!

You can even order a Gourmet Picnic Basket to have on the beach or grassed reserve - this comes with cutlery & even a picnic rug!

Lots of yummy Gourmet Burgers to 'takeaway' too

The Gelato & Sorbets are devine!

Well worth a visit... the Cafe opens at 7am!
