Dim sums are only marginally ok and staff can be very rude sometimes. Only redeeming quality is the chilli sauce.
Made a huge mistake dining here lately for lunch. The pork dumplings tasted simply awful, and I wonder how long old the meat was that was used to make this dish. Had a quick glance at the food grading certificate behind the counter, and I seriously question its accuracy. Perhaps its time for another inspection update. Another glance on the other side of the counter and I see a communal bowl of DIY chili sauce, with a heavily stained ladle and splatters of unknown liquid all over the tray. Oh boy, I wonder how this place stays in business. I also question the authenticity of some glowing reviews below. It just makes you wonder...
I had a BAD dim sum dining experience here last week, which is quite sad to say, considering the vast number of above-average Chinese eateries which can be found in the same area. Normally when dim sum’ming, you will encounter both good and bad dishes, but Star Cafe consistently served bad bad, very BAD dim sum. I could taste the same foul, week-old smell from the flour used to make cheong fun (prawn or pork wrapped in flat rice flour). The yam in a fried dish tasted at least a week old again. YUCK. Not very nice and it had the same off-smell to it. The decor of the place is quite nice, but the food is just horrible. I cannot explain it further. The food is horrible. Full stop.
The final insult came when paying the bill, and it was not cheap considering the quality of food that was offered. I strongly suggest you avoid this place, and you will thank me for it.
Extremely poor service,we went there on a recommendation. We had to ask for basics such as serviettes which were not provided (a few times),plates, drinksNo follow up service to see if we needed top up on drinks, two of us asked for beers but the rest of the party weren't asked by them if they needed any drinks. One of us has a food allergy and as such can't have nuts ,eggs or fish in their meals. (Chicken ,Lamb choices are available)Apparently this restaurant only uses Peanut Oil in their food for cooking as told by the manager of the night shift and the only thing they recommended was steamed vegetables!!UnbelievableThe staff couldn't wait for us to leave and started to remove plates and leftovers as soon as we stood up to leave.I can appreciate it was new years eve and the staff may have parties etc to go to but this was at 9.30pm I will never go back there and as word of warning to people with some allergies keep away as they only use peanut oil in their food!!!
Always good food and service, go to Star Cafe regular for over four years.
Have been there a couple of times and food is excellent and always plentiful considering the price is cheap. The staff are always helpful, although it may take a little wile it's just like any other standard restaurant you would go to. The only thing that is negative about this place is the limited parking. Other than that definitely going there more often!
The service is really poor!!!we live close to Star Cafe Seafood Restaurant so visit there very often. last sunday when we went and we had a booking for six people, four of us arrived 5 minutes earlier so we politely said to waitresses pushing around food trolleys that we don’t want any food yet since we are still waiting for our guests to come. There was this one waitress stood behind me and said loudly in Cantonese “some people just came here to sit, not like to order” and another waitress “replied to her” “yes yes”.Now you tell me how to rate Star Cafe Seafood Restaurant restaurant. Can I give a negative star?
