Serengeti Restaurant Information
The search is finally over for everyone who has been looking for that special restaurant that gives them the flavours of Africa with good service and value for money food, within a relaxed and friendly family environment. Mark Coppin, his wife Charleen and his sister Tracey Dobson are the entrepreneurs behind an exciting new restaurant that has opened on the beachfront in beautiful Murrays Bay on Auckland’s North Shore.
The name Serengeti was inspired by the Masaai word “Siringita” which means the land that is constantly moving and aptly reflected the immigrant nature of all Africans to New Zealand. The new restaurant will serve a combination of South African, West African and East African cuisine with lots of truly warm South African hospitality.
With over 50 years of combined experience in the hospitality industry and a passion for good, honest food, these 3 have created a destination that will satisfy that longing for the taste of Africa without having to pay for the plane ticket.

A La Carte Menu
This place was recommended to me as the best rib place in the region and it didn't disappoint.
I am a fan of the ribs at The Merchant, Lone Star Albany and of course Deep Creek in Browns Bay and Serengeti is arguably the best yet.
The venue is relaxing and cool with great views and even if parking can be tricky it is worth a small walk if need be.
We went on a Tuesday night and took advantage of the all you can eat ribs deal for $34.
Served with your choice of chips or baked potato and salad or vegetables I took the chips and salad. The serve yourself salad bar is on the small side but was so good it did the job perfectly with beetroot, coleslaw and a feta Greek style salad all proving to be winners and perfect companions to the star of the show- the ribs.
These beasts are meaty and charred perfectly to provide a nice balance of smoky and sweet.
And honestly- one plate would have done fine- there is a lot of meat even in one serving.
But of course I took advantage of the deal and when the waitress came round to ask if I wanted more.
Excellent staff here and ours was very friendly and super efficient too.
The dessert was terrific too - a Malva sticky pudding with custard and ice cream.
All in all this is hard to fault on location, food, service and value and I will certainly be going back.
We were worried when we saw the big group table and the place was very busy anyway (Friday Night) however service was excellent being timely, courteous, friendly and helpful. The value of the meals is excellent as they are large proportions and very tasty. The starters are also a good size so best to fast for the day if you are going there so you can fit it all in. My Moroccan lamb was absolutely delicious. Friends had pork ribs, tiger prawns and very impressed also.
I gave 5 stars but it should be about 4.7 - a couple of items were off the menu and the salad bar is average (so get the veggies). It is a bit noisy (just the acoustics and typical of many restaurants) though that will depend on where you sit. Our fussy friends were also impressed. Will go again as soon as possible.
I love the ribs here.. best ever. SO nice and on Tuesdays and Thursdays they have all you can eat ribs for $29, which is pretty good since they're so divine. Like it so much I'm getting a group of us to go to Serengeti in Murrays Bay soon to try out the South African food there. Best S.A cuisine ever. So tasty.
