I'm not sure why Sawadee is so popular, perhaps it's because of the exterior of the building and Thai staff? Anyway, the food is cheap but all tastes the same. On a table of 10 we ordered a variety of dishes and all had a similar taste. If you're looking for big portions with not any authentic tasting Thai flavours, lots of deep-fried goodness and byo win then Sawadee is your place. I personally prefer fragrant and flavoursome Thai food myself. On the other hand, the service is friendly and quick so I suppose a 3 staff is fair.
I just had my first and last dinner in Sawadee at Ponsonby. Being a Thai food lover, I was really looking forward to dine on this restaurant. Little did I know that it will end up in a total disappointment and frustration. The food is good though but I can have it in other Thai restaurants in a more reasonable price and way way better service. I will definitely NOT recommend this to my friends.

This is one of the best Thai restaurants that I have been too. The decor was great, the seats were a bit awkward to get in and out of but they helped create a brilliant atmoshpere.
The food itself was spectacular and really good sized portions. The price was reasonable for what you get and the service was wonderful and always with a smile.
I love a good thai meal and sawadee never disappoints. There are a few meals i really enjoy but they do possibly the greatest Pad Thai in the world!!! Everything is cooked so beautifully and the flavours are to die for! great for any occasion and a fantasic meal out.
I've been going to this reataurant for a few years now for the price the food is good the service is good but not great. The place could be a little more welcoming and the menu needs to be updated. Some of the dishes are nice and are great standbys for regulars as you always know what you're getting. But if you want something new it's tricky to know what to get as they don't update the options.
Sawadee's is a favourite Thai restaurant of mine located in Ponsonby which fails to disappoint. Reasonably priced their wide range of delicious Thai dishes are all worth trying. Sawadees location is within easy walking distance from both Ponsonby and K'Rd shops.
If in that area of town and looking for somewhere good to eat then pop in as bookings are not always required.
We had the most terrific time at Sawadee and will definately go back soon. The food was so rich in flavour, I haven't actually tasted anything like it. The staff were so friendly and effecient and the place was clean and relaxing. It had a really nice atmosphere and we left feeling really full.
