Absolute rip off.We ordered the Chirashi don. It was $18.50 or $19.50, can’t remember exactly, but it was around there. It comes in a medium sized bowl and there was about half a bowl of rice in there in a shape of a ball, Sashimi pieces (about 5 pieces) were thin an flimsy with side bits of fish, a few shredded bits. It barely filled me up. Not impressed. The chirashi don at Narita is about $16.50 and it comes in a big bowl of rice with lots of decent sized slices of sashimi.Beef tataki – was not bad, but a few slices were frozen. Yum Yum sauce with Scallops. There were about 6 scallops, decent sized. But they were dry,and there was no yum yum sauce taste, it looked and tasted like what stir fried scallops would be like at a chinese restaurant. Scallops were immersed in oil on a hot plate with ginger and chives. $24.50. Rolled sushi. Pieces looked like they were home made. Two pieces of sushi with salmon and sashimi had bones in them. Green Tea which tasted like boiling water was charged $2 a cup.Need I say more? Please don’t go to Sakanaya Japanese Restaurant. Even if you have a voucher. (by the way we paid full price) I love japanese food and I hardly ever write reviews. But this place is just appalling. Bad quality food and small portions. oh, and also bad presentation.Disgusting.
Sakanaya Japanese Restaurant sure gives a bad name to GrabOne, not to mention to all Japanese restaurants! My husband & I had the misfortune of buying a couple of GrabOne vouchers to be used at this restaurant. As soon as we sat down at the table, we were asked if we had the voucher. We handed it over & started ordering our food. I had a sashimi bento & my husband had a chicken katsu set. Both portions were miserably small! The few measly so-called sashimi I had was not fresh...in fact, they cannot be called sashimi as they look like off-cuts from the fish! My husband's chicken katsu tasted a little better but it wasn't the usual juicy piece of chicken. It was more like a piece of crumbed schnitzel...yes, it was that thin! All in all, a total rip-off, even at the GrabOne price. Cannot begin to imagine patrons having to pay the full menu prices. Certainly not looking forward to using our second voucher at Sakanaya restaurant! Urgh!
seafood is Sakanaya Japanese Restaurant's specialty! I've dined at Sakanaya twice this year (and a fair few times last year) and have felt the meals have been consistently fresh and portion sizes plentiful.
Looking forward to the next Sakanaya Japanese Restaurant experience!
Love Sakanaya! It's laid-back, offers a great menu with loads of fish specials, does a tasty set lunch menu and consistently delivers fresh, delicious food. I've visited several times in the last 6 months, both for lunch and dinner and have had absolutely no cause for complaint, or even mild dissatisfaction for that matter!
Most recent visit was lunch yesterday where I had the daily lunch box (teriyaki fish, seaweed salad, 2 x sushi rolls, potato cake, rice, coleslaw, miso, and a wedge of orange) and my colleague had her usual teriyaki chicken don, which also comes with miso, plus we had edamame. Fabulous. Looking forward to my next visit already!
