Ruan Thai Restaurant

Ruan Thai has a fantastic location and serves up pretty good food.

Located along the main drag of Mission Bay, you get good views being on the first floor. The restaurant itself provides a warm feel, perfect for a wintry day. Atmosphere was bustling but it wasn't frantic.

The food wasn't too bad. The curries could do with a bit more flavour though and I did find that after a while, food was less appealing due to the sweetness in some dishes. Unfortunately a problem I find with Thai restaurants in Auckland.

Unfortunately though, service was quite bad. While staff are not rude or anything, service was really slow as they were really under-staffed on the day I visited. When we arrived, we sat at our table for a good 5 minutes without being provided menus or water. We didn't have a booking. But in my opinion, they really should have turned us away if they weren't able to cope. The restaurant was not even full. At one time, there were no staff members around in the restaurant at all. So many times we had to crane our necks looking for a staff member and have to call out for service.

Price-wise, I'd say that they are on the higher end of the scale.

Overall, great location and food's not too bad. But given the service, it does put me off from wanting to go back. Might give it another go.

So far, my favorite Thai in town. Great view of mission bay and you can always find free parking around.
The staff is very friendly and attentive. The food comes in huge portions and full of flavor. Reasonably priced as well.
Great place to get your tummy full with yummy Thai and meet up with friends for a dinner.

This is best Thai restaurant in Auckland. I've tried many other Thai restaurants in auckland, but I couldn't choose one better than Ruan Thai Restaurant.


The priced range from $25-$35; they serve food in quite big proportions; and it comes very quick too. The service is extremely friendly and nice.


I like the chicken with cashew nuts in peanut butter sauce, and a fried snapper in tamarillo and sweet thai chilli sauce. Mission Bay special is also great and I like the thick and tasty Satay chicken as well:) I can definitely give 5 stars in this restaurant! They deserve the BEST!
