The ViewAuckland Review
4 out of 5 stars
Richmond Rd Café was bustling with patrons the Saturday morning I went for a leisurely brunch with my folks. Nestled in the industrial end of Richmond Road, Richmond Rd Café is a new addition to the selection of eateries in the area.
There was a ten minute wait for a table but I had heard good things about the food so I was eager to find out for myself. The wait was made easy with an abundance of magazines and the weekend newspaper to occupy my time.
The staff were friendly and attentive, making sure water glasses were topped up throughout the meal and moving us inside when the Auckland skies threatened to open up. The extensive menu stands out with unique additions to standard café food such as lemon curd pancakes with blueberry compote and lavender infused maple syrup.
After much deliberation we made our choices; I opted for the eggs benedict with bacon, mon pere ordered the chorizo, bianci di spagna beans on sour dough and mon mere ordered the homemade onion bread, with champagne ham. Considering how busy it was we did not have to wait long for our food. My meal was near perfect; two runny eggs served on top of a lightly toasted bun with just enough hollandaise drizzled over the eggs. Satisfied noises were made by all and words like ‘delicious’ and ‘superb’ were expressed at the end.
Despite our full tummies we decided to indulge in coffee and some of the delectable cakes from the counter. The coffee was expertly made and mon pere highly recommends the Portuguese tart.
With ample parking, impeccable service and delicious food Richmond Rd Café is on my highly recommended list.
