Food is definitely not as great as its former glory days, but it's improved after a drop in standard a while back. Food is edible and I would come back if I'm looking for a reasonably priced feed.
My biggest gripe is still the udon noodles they use..
For 5 years or so years I've been travelling up and down Parnell Road at least once a week and never even considered Renkon Japanese as a dining option....finally that mindset changed yesterday.
For a quick bite to eat during an informal business catchup, Renkon is the place - menu is small but certainly enough options there for most tastes. The lunch specials at Renkon are particularly good too.
We waited 15minutes for someone to take our order, then ordered at the counter but specified it was 'eat in'... then waited another 45minutes for our food - only to be told that because we ordered at the counter (because they never took our order), they could only serve it in takeaway boxes (would it be too much to put the food on a plate?)
When I wanted to speak to the manager I was told that he doesn't speak English and the ONLY person that spoke English didn't have the authority to give us a discount or take any complaints further.
