Raven & Cook, Greenwoods Corner - Cafe Review


Channeling a heritage British ambience courtesy of the white wall tiles from the shop’s previous incarnation as a fish shop. More contemporary and 21st century touches come from the trendy lighting and a few regulars tap…tap…tapping away on iPads.


Friendly and easygoing with my well-made coffee and breakfast appearing in good time. Extra points for the chef who made a special trip from the kitchen to chat about the interesting ingredients in my meal.

Drink's List

Allpress coffee, Harney & Sons teas, and a few Kiwi-as ginger beer and soft drink diversions from Hakanoa and Foxton Fizz. Raven & Cook’s hot chocolate is made from carefully melted slabs of Whittaker’s finest.


The Big Greek Breakfast ($15) off the specials menu - eggs baked in a spicy tomato sauce with cannellini beans and freekeh, a roasted green wheat popular in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine. The chef’s inspiration for the dish apparently came from his Greek Cypriot uncle.

Most Surprising Dish

Toasted panetone with mascarpone and orange and vanilla cream ($8.50) – a sweet breakfast alternative to French toast.

The Bottom Line

Raven and Cook is a terrific new café offering interesting Middle Eastern and Mediterranean spins on traditional breakfast and lunch favourites – well worth stopping at if you’re heading to the airport.

A Reason To Return

For lunch, either with a friend to share the antipasto deli slab crammed with cheese and Italian or French charcuterie ($38), or the chicken crumbed in pistachio, sumac and sesame ($22).
