RAD Cafe Information

Rad is more than just comfy sneakers, cruisy bikes, trampolines or the occasional spontaneous skinny dip, Rad is something you find when you’re not looking for it because Rad is random. That’s why at The Return of Rad we’ve made a place for it, somewhere awesome where you can cruise in and out quickly, or linger all day if you want to. The dosage of Rad is up to you, coffee made to perfection is our job.

RAD is really one of my locals, I go there regularly for the Flight coffee. The best thing about RAD is the team, the staff are always warm and interesting, they are curious but not too curious. Even on busy days the baristas are super fast and organised. The staff wear more black rimmed, retro, geek glasses than Taylor Swift. Luckily, they are all hipsters, so they have probably never heard of her. The only negative for me about RAD is that the converted building only has windows out the front, so on a hot day both the back room and the main counter area can feel pretty airless. The chocolate cake with salted caramel icing has been the best piece of cake I have eaten so far this year.

The last time my friends and I visited RAD Cafe, we were too late to sample from their breakfast menu which at that time, finished at 10:30AM. So this time round, we went nice and early so we won’t miss out. Heading in at 10 in the morning, we managed to get one of their last two tables.Despite being a busy morning, we were served our breakfast around 15 minutes after ordering, it was rather impressive. My order of the mushroom omelette was a great way to start the morning. Packed with different types of mushroom and feta cheese, the eggy omelette was light and fluffy and finished with a drizzle of truffle oil. Perfectly cooked and well seasoned, the feta cheese added just the right amount of salt. I especially like the ciabatta bread which they freshly bake on a daily basis. Unlike some stale and rock hard bread, this ciabatta has a crispy exterior and a light and fluffy interior. My friend’s eggs benedict with smoked salmon was received with much excitement. Two runny poached eggs, neatly placed on slices of smoked salmon and potato cakes, topped with a thick hollandaise sauce. Instead of serving the eggs on bread or English muffins, Rad’s take on the eggs benny uses potato cakes. She happily devoured the dish.I was glad that we came early, because by the time we left, the line for dining in was so long, patrons had to start waiting outside. Their breakfast menu was just as good as their Rad sandwiches and I’m happy to report that they have now extended their breakfast menu till noon. However, if you’re not a fan of waiting, make sure you come early so you won’t be disappointed!

There's so much to like about RAD cafe. The decor is fresh and, staff chirpy and plenty on the menu that should appeal for a quick lunch or casual bite. The bahn mi is really delicious (they dont skimp on fillings) and makes for a good lunch time option if you find yourself in the Mt Eden area. Parking can be a bit of a pain but persevere as you'll be glad you did.

No breakfast is complete without coffee. I enjoyed a glass of their cold drip while my friend had a flat white.

The wait may have been long but oh so worth it. Words obviously got out in a big way for Rad Cafe in Mt Eden and at every step of the way cant fault these guys. Awesome at keeping us in the loop about when a table (for six) would be available, explaining dishes and complimentary tea and all done with a smile and willingness to have a bit of conversation. The food also delicious - the chicken and quinoa I had was great but there were also a lot of positive comments made from our group about the eggs bene and the big breakfast. The 'sh@t is bananas' smoothie was also really tasty. Like I say, can't recommend Rad Cage highly enough.

RAD is one right on venue with so much to like about it - I only wish I lived closer to Mt Eden.
Staff fantastic and friendly - playful even but that doesn't detract from their professionalism. The menu is a bit limited (both counter and printed) but still a whole lot of awesomeness to be had. The bread rolls are the best in town (in my humble opinion) - I had the mango, chicken and coleslaw one and geez it was good. Coffee (from flight) also top draw - loving Rad - legend!!

A friend and I went and checked out RAD cafe over the weekend and we both left feeling extremely satisfied. I simply can not fault the place.
Amazingly friendly staff, delicious food, warm vibes and the best coffee that I have had in a long time.
I ordered the Eggs Bene and my friend ordered the Mushrooms on Toast which were both superb. I can not wait to go back as their were plenty more that I was eyeing up on the menu.
Thanks so much for the delicious experience.
