To be honest, I could go to Prohibition and not eat anything and would be amazed by the place. The old 1920's and gangster feel it's so amazing I could walk out of there feeling that I've been to one of the coolest places in town. Every time me and my friends go there is for the low-tea, and we always have a great time.
The little rolled pavlovas are to die for, the small scones and deserts come down as a massive treat. Love the variety of teas offered and the service is top. Have to go back to Prohibition with husband for a try on the dinner menu, but whatever you do there, going in is definitely worth it.
We booked at the very last moment on a Saturday night and were lucky enough to slide in due to another's cancellation. I had been to Probition about three months ago, and enjoyed it then but seemed to love it even more this time (if that's even possible). The service was impeccable - our waiter went above and beyond to find me the perfect wine and yes, although very expensive by the glass, worth every drop. It was a specially set menu (that they were doing for one week only); my husband had entree (shared) and main, me - main and dessert (shared). There wasn't much to choose from re the entrees hence why I marked them a '9' and we had the duck ... it was nice but it was tiny!!!! The mains were incredible and the dessert was out of this world (bombalini - sugared donoughts with berry coulis and chocalate sauce). Apart from the food and service, my fave part of the night was the jazz singer accompanied by two guys. We were seated right next to her and she was amazing, setting the atmosphere off perfectly.
This place is a must go to; we will definitely be back. It is not cheap but then, not hideously expensive either and worth every cent. I would highly recommend this as a place to go for dinner and a great time.
After dining at Prohibition for a friends 40th birthday we found the experience very unquie and well worth it. The service was fantastic and the food and wine one to repeat. The setting and decor is very original with their attention to detail leaving nothing behind. The theming is brilliant. After reading a write up in the 29.09.08 Sunday Star times Paper I have to say I thought her comments were rather unfounded and very scaving. She was obviously angry when she wrote it and I am left to wonder if I would actually read any truth into her restaurant evaluations in the future. She clearly got it wrong with Prohibition.
