The food was bland, service was average, and the room is ridiculously loud. When arriving at Prego Restaurant during the lunch rush we were told a table would be 30 mins, after deciding that we would just go elsewhere after waiting awkwardly in the middle of the bar area for a couple of minutes a table magically became free while others stood at the bar waiting. After having a look through the menu, where nothing really jumped out at me, I decided on one of the pizzas. I love strong tasting food, and as the pizzas didn't have any strong flavors asked if the cheese could be swapped out for bluecheese, the waiter declined saying the chefs did no variants on the menu. Although this was understandable the pizza lacked in flavor to the point were I would have preferred a takeout pizza to pregos. I have been overwhelmed by Prego in the past, but was seriously disappointed this time, I will be choosing other places in Ponsonby next time.

Once again Prego Restaurant exceeded all expectations. Simply superb food (if you're a fan of seafood, then Prego is the place to be), great, affable staff and devoid of the pretentiousness that some of the other restaurants along the Ponsonby strip seem to have.
Only downpoint is that you can't book - but that really is Prego's ONLY downpoint in my opinion. A highly recommended Auckland Restaurant!

Took my husband to Prego last week and the meal delivered on expectations, though I was a little annoyed at being made to wait at the bar whilst our table of two was ready whilst 3 tables sat empty. However the great service (from a newbie American lad?) and exquisite food made up for it.

Had lunch at Prego about a month ago. Food was amazing, good vegetarian options as well. The staff were lovely, the worst thing was it was so crowded - speaks volumes about Prego I guess.

The decision to go to Prego for the first time was a spur of the moment kind of thing (aren't those the best decisions anyway?). A friend was craving the rice risotto from Prego and, since we were having drinks nearby, we decided to all go.

The restaurant doesn't take reservations so the trip to Prego is always a risky one - you might end up having to wait for quite a while before getting a table. But, rather than an inconvenience, you should take that as a good sign, a sign of how popular the place is.

The rice risotto that my friend raved so much about did not disappoint but, aside from the mains, what really made me think "that's it, I have found my favourite Auckland restaurant" was the bread that they bake themselves in a stone-oven and serve you as an entree with butter and olive oil. It's something else.

The staff was really friendly and, in spite of how busy the place was (it was Friday night, after all), kept checking if everything was going well with us.

A meal for two cost us about $110 and was worth every cent.

Prego on a lazy Sunday afternoon is a quiet, relaxed and chilled out place (with great food!) and very suitable for kids.

Prego in the evening is loud and vibrant (with great food)

The atmosphere changes dramatically depending on the time of day, but the quality of food never changes.

Consistently good food, welcoming staff and comfortable surroundings (although at times a bit noisy) - the fact that people were queueing up 10 mins before lunch time service is testament to Prego's popularity amongst Aucklanders.
Well done Prego!
