My husband and I went here for lunch today. There were only 6 tables of customers when we arrived, not busy. We ordered the seared tuna salad and the lamb salad with a side order of fries, a tomato juice and a lemonade with lime.
We waited nearly 15 minutes before the drinks arrived, the lemonade had no lime. After listening to the customers at the next table complain their food was taking ages, we remained hopeful. However after a further 50 minutes our meals hadn't arrived. When they finally came, the tuna had gone cold and the lamb was just warm. Both salads were small and drowned with dressing. The fries didn't turn up until we had almost finished, and we asked for them to be cancelled. The waiter told us to 'have them on him'. When I went to pay I was asked if everything was okay so I told him about the poor service. He struggled to find our order in the computer and then said 'did you eat your wedges?', I said yes after they wouldn't be cancelled the waiter told us to have them on him. He said oh well take that as a discount then and told me the price.
What apalling service for a quiet late lunch, wouldn't go near the place again or recommend it at all. Decor was tired and grubby as well.
Called into Portside Bar for a few wines after a visit to the Auckland Art Fair. I had never really noticed the bar before but the place was packed - the Indian summer weather we've been having definately must benefit this place with the alfresco drinking and dining that's on offer. Plenty of wine selection, and my partner commented that he was quite suprised as to how many imported beer varieties are on offer. Portside Bar is well worth a revisit for sure!
I love going to Portside Bar & Brasserie for coffee (which is excellent) and drinks after work, as it is easily accessible, the staff are friendly and wine list not too expensive. However, we recently had a platter - which is a combination of many of their light meals and sounds wonderful on paper (in fact, I have had this platter before and it was wonderful and so talked my not-really-hungry friends into trying it).
What a horrible disappointment. This platter includes calamari – passable; sardines – disgustingly oily; Falafel – like eating dried mud cakes; and battered mushrooms - which were indescribably disgusting.
Such as shame as the coffee and breakfasts are awesome!
