The ViewAuckland Review
Vibe
Much like its Awaawaroa Valley setting, Poderi Crisci is stunning. Dimly lit, on a dreary winter’s afternoon and with the roaring fire well underway, it's hard to imagine a more cosy and relaxing environment to while away a Saturday afternoon.
Service
Our late arrival didn't deter the friendly, down-to-earth staff. No pretentiousness here, the warmth and interest shown by Poderi Crisci's staff was genuine.
Winelist
Of the concise wine menu, Poderi Crisci's own 2008 Viburno at $15 by the glass was a real standout. The Winelist is understandably small, but have some sympathy for beer drinkers - with only Peroni and Steiny light on offer.
Highlights
If the winelist was a little sparse, the same can't be said for the restaurants food menu. Far too many highlights to mention (or try) on one visit alone, our selection of plates from the long lunch menu did not disappoint. The general consensus of our group was the Zucchini alla scapece - fried zucchini with mint and garlic - outlandishly good.
Most Suprising Dish
Everything - literally every single dish delivered which is suprising in itself. For arguments sake, the herb smoked beef carpaccio with a macedonia of fresh vegetables and truffle paste was the perfect mid-winter suprise.
The Bottom Line
Poderi Crisci is reason enough to visit Waiheke at any time of the year. Atmosphere, service and above all, food worth savouring.
A Reason To Return
Antonia Crisci's very own 'trust the chef' set meal - after all, who would argue with a chef and personality this successful.
