Possibly the friendliest wait staff in Auckland me-thinks!
We're out of towners and had a great meal here the other day. The sky tower is a true New Zealand icon, and being able to take it in from that perspective was truly memorable.
We'll be sure to tell all our friends about Orbit and pay the skycity restaurant a visit once again.
We enjoyed a lovely brunch at Orbit today. Aside from the best view in Auckland, the food was very good and the service exceptional. The big breakfast consisted of mushrooms, tomato, hash browns, eggs and sausage - all delicious. The french toast served with banana and raspberry compote was also excellent. We had a toddler with us and were happy to use the restaurant high chair which was sturdy and very clean!! Would definitely return to Orbit for brunch.
Orbit was our place of choice for our work do. We had reserved seats so had no problem getting seated. Service was attentive & on time. I had the set which was reasonably priced for 2 wine samplers, an appetiser, main & dessert. The appetiser was DIVINE - it was a duck & mushroom tart. The mains were good as well - we had to wait a bit due to high numbers but not too long . All in all, an awesome experience - especially since we were there before sunset when it was bright and at sunset when it turned darker :)
Nothing like seeing your city from 360 degrees, in slow motion, whilst dining!
More then just a novel idea it has to be one of the most spectacular places to have a meal. The views of Auckland are fabulous and even more so if you are lucky enough to be dining on a night where there is a beautiful sunset!
Orbit at the top of the Skycity Tower in the centre of Auckland city is a definate when you are entertaining overseas or out of town guests!
My previous review said it all. Almost! For our anniversary dinner this year we had the set menu. This consisted of creamy pumpkin soup and a glass of chardonnay; roast fillet of beef on kumara mash and wilted spinach and a glass of red wine; chocolate parfait. Worth the $65 each. Watch for the bottled water though at $8 a litre bottle! Waiters for very attentive. Watch for next year's review.
Service was very poor, wait staff running around the restaurant flicking each other with tea towels. Drinks order messed up twice, food took 40 minutes to arrive and was then totally over cooked, especially for Tuna. To finish the night off when we left our bill was messed up.
Expensive, over rated. Definitley left a bad taste.
Overall it was a lovely experience. Due to it's popularity we had to book quite a way in advance, but still only managed to grab a 8.45pm booking. The staff were pleasant and attentive when required, and a birthay card was even placed on the table prior to our arrival. The only thing I would watch out for if dining again, would be to make sure I took something warmer to wear as the air conditioning seemed to be set at a very low temp.
