CAC Bar & Eatery
(Mediterranean, Spanish, Tapas)
CAC Bar & Eatery is named in tribute to the Colonial Ammunition Company that was once housed in the historic 1920's bluestone building that this Mt Eden restaurant now occupies. Despite having the typical local pub hangout vibe, CAC Bar & Eatery certainly doesn't rest on its laurels when it comes to dishing out some of the most innovative food you've seen from its kitchen. This ain't regular pub grub or the same old tapas, mind you; this Mt Eden restaurant keeps things fresh and Auckland locals coming back for more with monthly specials and new additions - think ricotta fritters with rhubarb or pork and pistachio pates!

Eden Cloak Room
(Pub Food)
It may be an understatement to say that the people of Mt Eden were pretty excited when Eden Cloak Room opened its doors on Mt Eden Road, Auckland. The Mt Eden community hasn't seen a down-to-earth yet competent addition the likes of Eden Cloak Room to the pub and bar scene around the vicinity for a good while now, and the locals of Mt Eden had evidently embraced the addition of this new restaurant to their valley, judging from the crowds of people flooding out from the neighbourhood pub onto the street-side come after-work hours. The menu at Eden Cloak Room is concise yet diverse enough to branch out beyond the usual fish and chips (although that isn't to discredit their fish and chips, because they do deep fry a darned mean one!)

Frasers Cafe & Espresso Bar
(Cafe)
Frasers Cafe & Espresso Bar marks our choice as one of the best Mt Eden cafe slash restaurants in town - in fact, Frasers Cafe & Espresso Bar is fit to contend even with the best in Auckland. Despite having been around for decades now, Frasers Cafe remains relevant to the Auckland locals of today, never skimping on the size of their positively decadent eggs benedict or generous serves of hashcakes even after all these years. And with this Mt Eden cafe being open until 11pm every night, this cafe makes a perfect night craving queller for those in the Mt Eden neighbourhood.

Merediths
(New Zealand)
Mt Eden residents couldn't have scored a better fine dining local to have in the Mt Eden vicinity than Merediths Restaurant, we say! Michael Meredith, alumni of equally prestigious The French Cafe had chosen Mt Eden of Auckland to house his restaurant venture, plating up some of the most imaginative and unusual, yet confoundingly delectable food you'll find not only in Mt Eden, but in Auckland as well. Merediths is in the pinnacle of Auckland fine dining, so while it isn't exactly everyday dining material, you may want to save an outing to this Mt Eden restaurant for a special occasion instead; it guarantees to be a night to remember.

Molten Restaurant
(New Zealand)
Despite the impressive and growing number of internationally renowned chefs New Zealand can pride itself in, Michael van de Elzen of Molten Restaurant remains one of our favourite Kiwi chef icons in the industry. One episode of The Food Truck - Michael's TV series that revolves around him converting some of the most diverse cuisines into a viable food truck business concept - is all it takes to understand the charm (and undeniable culinary talent) of this Mt Eden restaurant owner and head chef. But consistently great nosh aside, Molten Restaurant is - above all - worthy of a top Mt Eden restaurant crown simply because it's never overbearing, always unassuming and genuinely genial, every single time we're there.

The Mulberry
(New Zealand)
Try the food at The Mulberry, and you'll agree that The Mulberry is the role gastro bar model that sets the benchmark for all of Auckland's aspiring gastro bars or pubs. This Mt Eden restaurant may come across as being rather pricey with prices of mains exceeding the $30- mark, but we assure you that the food cooked up by chef Sal Grant is well worth the price you are paying. With an impressive wine list featuring a bevy of local favourites, The Mulberry makes for the perfect stop when you want to indulge in great food without the pretension or up-tightness.

New Flavour Restaurant
(Asian, Chinese)
With the sheer diversity of authentic cuisine types available in Mt Eden, Auckland, it simply wouldn't be right to make an ultimates list of Mt Eden restaurants without including some variety into the equation. Enter the Mt Eden Chinese restaurant representative on View Auckland's list, New Flavour Restaurant. This Mt Eden restaurant is the epitome of the average Chinese neighbourhood restaurant - dingy, sallow lighting and nonchalant service. The food, however, is worthy of more than just neighbourhood local status. The dumplings at New Flavour are house made daily and the cook up some mean traditional Chinese dishes on the wok without burning a hole through your pocket, too, so what's not to like?

Ras Vatika Indian Vegetarian Cafe
(Indian, Vegan, Vegetarian)
Nothing like further shaking up the line-up of modern Western and upmarket line of Mt Eden restaurants in our recommended Mt Eden Restaurants list with a cheap and cheerful favourite of ours. Once a discreet eatery watching a steady stream of loyal Mt Eden locals drop by day in, day out, word had been getting out about the authentic Gujarati, South and North Indian food that Ras Vatika Indian Vegetarian Cafe prepares. We've got mixed feelings about this predicament - although we feel like added publicity will only make it even more difficult than it already is now to grab a table at this Mt Eden restaurant, we couldn't think of a more well-deserving, friendly and humble Mt Eden inhabitant to plug. Besides, love is meant to be shared now, isn't it?

Two Fifteen Bistro & Wine Bar
(Bistro, French, Modern European, New Zealand)
Owner and executive chef at Two Fifteen Bistro & Wine Bar, Jeremy Schmid retreats from the international culinary arena to settle down in the heart of Dominion Road, Mt Eden to open a restaurant that heralds the stripped back simplicity in back-to-basics foods and the importance of letting the best product and ingredients shine. The food at Two Fifteen Bistro & Wine Bar features basal and familiar dishes, but you'll have a hard time finding another restaurant in Mt Eden, Auckland that does what Jeremy does any better. The string of awards that this Mt Eden restaurant reels in year after year have got to say something about Jeremy's food.
