I had the great pleasure of attending a recital dinner event at Mollies, hosted by Frances Wilson-Fitzgerald and husband Stephen Fitzgerald in March 2011. Frances and Stephen were the perfect hosts, making sure everyone was having an enjoyable time.
The food was the usual high standard that I have come to expect from Mollies. The canapes were to die for and the champagne and wine flowed by the ever attentive staff. The recital by international opera singers was the cream on the top!
The recital dinners guarantee an excellent night out with great food and recitals hosted by Frances who is also the director of the Auckland Opera Studio Charitable Trust. She is also a world class opera coach who gives her time freely coaching rising opera talent at no cost!
Thoroughly recommended ... six stars!
Frances Wilson-Fitzgerald is the most gracious host, friendly and ever attentive, making sure all her guests are enjoying themselves. Not only is Frances the owner of an award winning hotel, but she is an accomplished pianist and renowned opera coach, giving freely of her time - at no cost - to nurture young New Zealand opera singers.
Fortunately for guests there are frequent recitals at Mollies where you can enjoy both local and international opera stars, and upcoming talents. I recently had the privilege to attend a recital dinner event at Mollies - the music, service and food - simply divine!
Mollies is in a class of its own! What a fabulous experience............the food and service is absolutely the best!! A true treat is taking part in the degustation menu with the accompanying wine. It takes all the pain out of deciding for yourself and guarantees a delight for the taste buds. I don't hesitate to recommend Mollies!
Undeniably one of Auckland's premier dining 'events' - and it is indeed an event well worth ticking off your bucket list.
We had the absolute pleasure of dining (and staying) here last night - sampling the superb degustation menu in the process.
The atmosphere is something else - candlelit, warm service, beautifully set placings - and yet so unpretentious it's not even funny - a lot of other Auckland restaurants could learn a bit from this place.
A few of the highlights from the menu included the hapuka and the bell pepper soup - although not one of the 6 dishes offered could be faulted.
For a special occasion, Mollies has got to be on your list - you won't be disappointed!
My boyfriend brought me here for my birthday a few months back and we just had a ball! For dinner we had the degustation menu matched with accompanying wines, but to polish it off, we stayed the night and had such a wonderful time. The hosts and live opera just complete it - highly recommend anytime!!
I went to the amazing Mollies last Friday with some friends - not only is the old villa setting stunning, the service impeccable, the food delicious - Friday night is opera night from 7.30pm for half an hour. The owner normally entertains you but this time we had one of her students who was a true talent. I've never been to opera before, but to sit so close to such an amazing voice was a great experience - definitely recommended!!
Absolutely exquisite! My husband has earned himself enough brownie points for a lifetime after he suprised me with a visit to Mollies last night.
I've always wanted to go having heard so many great things about the intimate restaurant.
My opinion ladies...put the hints out there often enough and you will actually get somewhere!
