Mexicali was a refreshing change from the sub-standard mexican restaurants around. food was top notch, quick and simple. will be back for sure!

We were the first people in Mexicali Fresh on a rainy Sunday at midday. It's a Mexican food meets Subway style build-your-own-sandwich place. I had nachos and a Corona in mind and D went for the burrito. The menus are simple as is the food (burrito, tacos, quesadilla and nachos) and all displayed on big plasma screens above the long counter. You tell the guy what meat you want - chicken, beef, pork and also choices of beans and salads and he builds it in front of you. Heaps of jalapenos and salsa for me thanks and a cold Corona to cool the tongue! The meals were a good size and very tasty, the nachos are made fresh in-house and were crispy to the end. This isn't a place for a table service dinner but if you just want a casual cantina style Mex fix and a few beers (you can get a selection of six Mexican beers in a bucket of ice for $30). Some insane imported bottles of hot sauce are for sale at the counter - I recommend the Yucateco habanero sauce. There's a kid's menu too though our little one got into my nachos and her mum's burrito and rice. Oh yeah she also loved the music by that great Mexican artist Bob Marley... :-)
