Merediths consistently serves up food of fantastic quality. The flavours can be rather adventurous and may not necessarily be to everyone's liking. I personally have found one or two things which I'd rather not have had. As the only options available are tasting menus, there is the inflexibility of not being able to choose only what you want.
However, in saying so, a friend of mine has previously requested for a special meal to suit dietary requirements (eg. no seafood). My friend was quite happy with the outcome and Merediths did not put up a fuss to cater for her dining partner. Please make sure you discuss with the restaurant while making your bookings though as they'll need time to organise something.
With the tasting menus though, I think that there will always be something on the menu which will take your fancy. I've always enjoyed the whole menu apart from maybe one or two things which were a little too extreme for me. Still good food but things which I usually do not eat.
The restaurant has very simple decor and a non-fussed environment. The focus is more on the food rather than the surroundings. I find the restaurant offers a relaxing dining experience. Staff make you feel comfortable and are ready to answer any questions you have. The drinks list is pretty extensive as well.
Merediths is definitely a place to add to your list of eateries to at least try.
Merediths is on top of my must-do list. Words cannot describe sensations caused by every dish. Merediths is an unforgettable experience for those who wish to try something new, arty and inventive.
This Restaurant deserves to be number one in Auckland. The Food is like nothing you've ever experienced before. Each dish, a work of art, beautifully composed, and tantalising to the taste buds. The most unique flavours, no matter how different to the next, fit so effortlessly together. There is no other place I would go to for food so close to perfection. Exceptional 5 star service that won't tarnish the experience you will have as you enjoy each course after the other. Beautiful, from the first course to the last.
Food is excellent and tasty. Presentation of each dish was amazing. Ambience wasn't very inviting but maybe because I was treated not so nicely... not like other people told me "friendly amazing service"... I didn't get that service even from the phone call to begin with.. maybe because I wasn't a kiwi!? The waiter I talked on the phone for confirmation of the booking was sort of the voice that I felt that he didn't really want to speak to me...I thought that maybe it's on the phone so we arrived at the restaurant... he wasn't still nice to any of us. Some of us were kiwis but they were early 20's. Well, apart from that everything was excellent so I will definitely go back!!! Hopefully, I get a nice service next time...
I had heard some great things about Merediths from friends and acquaintances who were lucky enough to sample this mans brilliance - I had to see (or taste) for myself.
New Zealand can stand up and be proud of the fact that we turn out chefs such as Michael Meredith!
What an amazing artist he is - his style of 'fusion' cooking is bizarre yet brilliant, his flavours leave a lasting impression as you plan your next visit before you've even stepped out of the restaurant!
Great to see this talented Samoan brother at the top of his game, and in such a cut throat industry!
A visit to Merediths is worth every bite.
went to Meredith's for lunch on Friday 13th. What a stroke of luck. I can't speak highly enough about the food and the service. Absolutley tops.
Absolutely rapt with my latest (and to date, only) Meredith's experience. Michael has created a culinary offering that would not be out of place in any of the world's major eating destinations. Well done Michael!
Merediths is a restaurant that conjures great fantasies. It has been in the press for some time with head Chef Micheal Meredith scoping many great reviews and awards. It is no wonder why.
Walking into Merediths on a cold stormy night is like being transported somewhere else. The location (slightly dingy part of Dominion rd) can't the first judging point because the interior shelters you away from the sidewalk, and it's like being welcomed into a well decorated, cosy upmarket lounge.
The menus come on a single sheet clip boards, five entrees and five mains. Doesn't sound to experimental until you read the ingredients. When I saw marshmallow, eel, quail, coconut, black pudding and cinnamon scattered across it, I knew we would be in for a treat. It wasn't until the meals arrived when I realized the truly magical experience we were about to encounter. In a nut shell- Chef Brilliance. Not a fault to be had. Each mouthful was amazing. It's no wonder a three course meal took over three hours, savoring every bite. I wanted to lick my plate clean, but don't think that would've gone down very well in such an establishment.
As for downfalls- be prepared to spend. But hey, I'm a poor student, so the luxury was defiantly worth foregoing some necessities for a while.
Couldn't come more highly recommended. Don't judge a book by it's cover, because although form the outside this book looks abit funny, the tales of pleasure on the inside are breath taking.
