Meat Your Match: Auckland's Best Meat-eries
Rare beef steak, mouth-wateringly good ribs, charcoal-grilled pork or wild game — whatever your poison, a visit to one of these great meat-eries will leave you well sated.
El Humero
Forteith & Hurstmere, 40 Hurstmere Street, Auckland, 0740
Research suggests you can't walk down Takapuna's Hurstmere Road on an empty stomach and not succumb to the delicious smells wafting down the corridor of the regions newest dining precinct. You've got El Humero to thank for that. One of Auckland's newest restaurants, this meatery specialises in the fine art of Columbian bbq-ing ... and what an art form it is. The paradilla is our favourite - a meat platter covering all the bases and ridiculously well priced to boot. Bookings recommended.

The Grill by Sean Connolly
SKYCITY Grand Hotel, 90 Federal Street, Auckland, 1010
Amongst the meat-loving fraternity, Sean Connolly's flagship Auckland restaurant has reached legendary status since launching a few years ago. It's hard not to get over-awed by the shear scale of the menu but if time, funds and appetite allow, splash out and try the aptly titled "Study Of Beef". Oh, and a visit wouldn't be complete without a side of duck fat chips.

El Sizzling Chorizo
Ponsonby Central, 136-138 Ponsonby Road, Auckland, 1011
These South Americans sure know how to barbeque. One of Ponsonby Central's more popular spots, El Sizzling Chorizo are masters of the asado. Visiting this spot does come with a warning though - if you're prone to meat sweats, make sure you order a few sides of the green variety!

Botswana Butchery
Ferry Building, 99 Quay Street, Auckland, 1010
As carnivores, any venue that has meat cleavers as door handles gets our attention. Harbour views, a fantastic wine list and sumptuous cuisine - it's great when that experience matches those initial impressions.
