OK..for starters i found it highly strange that Mamma Rosa do not take EFTPOS only cash or credit card..secondly when i paid with cash i never received a receipt..hmm? Dined in and ordered eye fillet steak..as my partner is well educated in the meat industry, he jokingly suggested it could possibly be horse meat..covered in sauce, once cutting into the "steak" it did not resemble anything along the kind..the more i poked around with this piece of meat, the less it seemed to resemble any meat i have seen/eaten before.Although i did not eat the 'steak', and complained, he did give us our garlic pizza bread for free..by the way this is not greek.
Went to Mamma Rosa with a big group (11 of us) and they over charged us with corkage when only a portion of us brought BYO wine to the restaurant. After getting that bill fixed, we realised they still charged $5 per head for corkage. so 9 out of 11 of us drank our own wine and paid an extra $45 just for using their wine glasses!!! Their menu said corkage is $3 per head, but for table with more than 10 people they charge $5 per head. I asked the young waitress what the logic is to charge more for corkage, she explained it's a small place and with bigger table that's what they charge. I am shocked. While they are making money on the food we purchase with a larger group, should it be economies of scale and make corkage cheaper or at least the same for everyone? I don't think I will go to Mamma Rosa's again. Bad experience, ordinary food.
I was very disapointed in this restaurant. The staff were very rude, not particularly helpful, the service took about 10 mins to take our order, another 15 mins before our order arrived at our table. The restaurant is advertised as being vegetarian/vegan when there is only one pasta dish, 3 pizzas that are vegetarian, none of these are vegan. The dish that we ordered was mainly cheese and tomato sauce (it was adveristed as vege lasagne, do two mushrooms count and a few slices of spinach count as vege lasagne).
If you want great Italian, then Mamma Rosa is the place you want to be. The pasta is homemade and melts in the mouth. Other wonderful taste sensations like the "Involtini" - YUM!
Never failing to be any different no matter how many times you go. Wonderful food at very reasonable prices - what else could you ask for?
Its necessary to book to get a table at Mamma Rosa. The food is lovely - especially the garlic pizza bread to start. Although you need to catch the waiters' attention to get served, it is worth it for the food and cheap prices.
One of the best kept secrets in Kohimarama. If you love Italian you have to dine here at least once. Great service and good prices with a comfortable Italian decor. Highly recommend eating here.
