I've been to Malt on a number of occasions always having a good time. Love their tasting platters. The atmosphere's always relaxed. A great place to chill out.

Having recently moved to the area I wanted to check some of the local drinking and eating spots out. Having heard mixed reviews i still wanted to visit Malt am soo glad we did. The first visit was a Friday evening and the place was quite full but still a range of seating around, more a tavern than restaurant but that is more my style, except the service and food are a lot more attentive and gourmet, even the beer battered fries are awesome. I definitely recommend the platters such good value for money and large enough to take care of dinner hunger pains, the cool thing was they had a happy hour and live music, this girl can sing!!! All this just round the corner!!! You have to sit out side the courtyard its really sweet a bit small but with a roof that opens and closes due to weather has me thinking we could spend many an afternoon or night out here especially if that fire is cranking. So that's just what we did heard there was a DJ playing on Sunday afternoon and came to check it out again the place was busy with a cool atmosphere. Malt Restaurant & Bar rocks I wondered why-it wasn't always humming but the staff had told me they have new management so however is now running the place keep doing what your doing mate and we will return with friends (once we make some)

I have had a few great meals at malt for at lunch for a reasonable price and would come on a more regular occasion. However the meals take about 30minutes to arrive at the table and i am unable to spare this much time for lunch. If they halved this time to make a few meals i would make it a weekly lunch. What i don't get it that barely anyone else is dining there, yet it still takes this long..

I had a wonderful time at Malt! The atmosphere was great and the staff were enthusiastic about what they were doing. I was surprised to find they had a DJ playing on the night, but my fears that the night would be spoiled by the noise were unfounded. Dinner on the deck for 4 people was great, the service was a bit slow though this can be forgiven as they were so busy. My steak was great and we all opted for dessert and were not disappointed.
I would go back again, especially in the winter as it will be nice to see the open fire going which was disappointingly unlit this time!

We visited Malt for a Saturday lunch & were most disappointed, understaffed, burnt corn fritters & missing the onion relish as detailed on the menu, ordered a side of hash browns which did not arrive with the order and had to ask for them - only to be told they were out & the chef had forgotten to tell the other staff, flies everywhere! After letting the manager know we weren't happy we were told we wouldn't be charged for the corn fritters & still were! Will NEVER go back.

After hearing great reviews booked a table for 12 one and a half weeks before the event. Rang half an hour before the reservation time to drop the table number to 10, and had to repeat 4 times what I was ringing for as the person couldn't understand me.

Once there the service went from bad to worse. Orders taken, but drinks never arrived as they lost the docket so ended up at the bar ordering again until they found the docket. Food arrived minus one order (they'd run out of salad) - and when asked if we wanted to order something else never came back to take the order. Meanwhile those with their food had already finished before we ended up at the bar yet again ordering the final new meal.

Granted - apologies were given by the staff along with 2 sides on the house and coffees, but service nowhere near good enough to make me go again. Was a birthday experience I hope not to have again!

I had a lovely meal at Malt last week, but it wasn't due to the cooking!
The staff there was just amazing, our waiter took time out to chat with my son and show him how to use his cutlery and their general attentiveness made for a relaxed and happy evening.
However I have to say that the food was truely not up to scratch, the scotch fillet in particular was a poor cut of meat, tough and chewy and there was literally so much pepper on it and I couldn't eat it, nor could my son.
I always suspect when you can't taste meat for the seasoning that there is something wrong with it.
The dessert - Chocolate Heaven, was spectacular however and made up for the badly cooked main a bit.
On the whole, I wouldn't go to Malt again for a main meal, but definitely for a dessert and a drink at the bar, it has great atmosphere, they just need to get a decent cook in there.

Four of us lunched at Malt last weekend. We got there just in time to order off the brunch menu, which was very accommodating of the staff.

Service was good, as was the atmosphere - although it would be nice to have the outdoor fire lit on colder winter afternoons for added ambience.

I ordered a beef salad, and was very disappointed. For around $18, it was a small heap of greens in the centre of the plate, and on arrival, we all looked and asked, "where is the meat?!" Turns out it was tucked right underneath, about five or six slivers ... very lacklustre for a place held in quite high regard.

Also, a pet hate of mine is when the beef is sliced then cooked, rather than being a whole portion that is cooked then sliced so the pieces can be tender and rare.

Whilst the salad was tasty, with it's a combo of mint, parsley and coriander, there was no where near enough to be satisfying. The vegetarian semi-dried tomato tart, whilst nice in flavour, was also too small for the price and the chicken salads, were fairly mediocre.

It was, like I mentioned earlier, very close to the brunch cut-off time - however, you should still get what you pay for and anticipate when dining at a fine establishment like Malt.
