Mairangi Japanese Cuisine

I have lived in Mairangi bay for nearly 7 years now and shockingly have never visited this restaurant until now. First of all the service and presentation of the restaurant is excellent and very friendly.
The menu is very big but basic and a frequent visitor to Japanese restaurants won't find many surprises, there is a tapas feel to the menu and it is very reasonably priced.
However although reasonably priced the portions are very generous, I had Gyoza ($8 for 6 large ones!) salmon sashimi sampler, octopus balls and beef tendon stew.
All the food was excellent and washed down with some lovely warm sake.
My wife however didn't enjoy the fried tofu which had a jelly like substance on th outside.

Other than that everything was great and just watch out for the beautifully presented food served sometimes in quirky ways, for example mini tree trucks with prawn tempura or table side blow torched caviar.

If your a fan of Japanese get to this little gem in Mairangi bay!

Superbly fresh seafood, awesome presentation, and great pricing. Great place to take kids, equally a great place for a romantic dinner for two. We couldn't fault a thing about Mairangi Japanese Cuisine
