Just came back from having lunch at Mac’s Brew Bar in Takapuna. The service is shocking. Our starter arrived quickly and the waitress only cleared our table when our mains arrive. Even then she left some dirty side plates on the table which she didn’t bother to remove. Finished our mains and the waitresses just ignored us and once again didn’t remove our plates. We waited to see if someone would come but they would walk past us quickly and could see us but couldn’t care less. It was not full inside at all so could not use busy as an excuse. I walked up to the bar and asked to speak to the manager and only then did a waitress decide to go and clear it. He had a no care attitude and shrugged his shoulders as if to say “so what” so you can obviously see where the staff are getting their nonchalant attitude from. He proceeded to ignore me and say something to another staff member who clearly looked as if I was stupid and had no grounds for complaint. Even though the food was good, I definitely will not be going back to Macs Brew Bar and will let all my friends know!!!

Atmosphere - Busy and vibrant. Gets pretty loud as the night wears on. Comfortable seating area with plush couches and a mish mash of chairs. Bar area was really packed by the time we left. I've been told it's like this most nights.

Food - Wider range of food available in comparison to the other Mac's bars I've been to. Good quality food that is well presented. Food was cooked well and tasted good. The mains are a step up from your usual pub fare. We tried the lamb, venison and steak. I'd recommend the lamb. Venison was interesting with the blueberries which blended with the meal well.

Service -- Depends on who you get serving you. Some staff are really nice and friendly, some aren't so. Loved our waitress' honest and friendly nature. However, wasn't too impressed with the service from some other staff, quite snobbish.

Drinks - Mac's range of beers and drinks. Cocktails were alright, some quite refreshing.

Overall experience -
Good. Would go back.

To call and book a table if you're wanting a meal, esp. on a Friday evening.

Be careful, if dining here with children especially if you have purchased Grabone vouchers (which do not state R18 like the new ones) as the manager, Dean, will become very aggressive and advise you that children are not entitled to use the vouchers as they need to be atleast 18 years of age to dine there. Why would they have a childrens menu is beyond me! Food average, entree never even made it to the table. Not Family Friendly!!!!!!

Mac's Brew Bar is a great casual bar along Hurstmere Road. Not for the sports fan, but if you're keen to just catch up with mates and relax, Mac's Brew Bar is probably the best place in Takapuna.

Mac's Brew Bar is easily one of Takapuna's best bars. A massive space with a sun drenched outdoor setting, there's always heaps going on.
Friday nights it gets chocker but well worth battling the crowds - see you there!
