Ive been threatening to go to Long Bay restaurant for about 6 years but just never made it. I managed to make it on a beautiful Autumn day recently. Not a cloud in the sky, a beautiful sea and beach to look at in a great area. The service was very friendly and the young American girl who served us was very good.
Food wise I had a mezze platter which is supposed to be an entree sharer but I had it for my main. Beautiful sausage complimented a lot of delicious bites on the plate including some delicious bread and hummus.
My wife had a lentil burger which wasn't bad but really messy.

Overall the Long Bay Restaurant is a great place to eat with beautiful views and great service. We'll be back!

Over the weekend my partner and I visited Long Bay Restaurant in the North Shore. The venue is pretty run down but with spectacular views over the Hauraki Gulf and nice, fresh food, Long Bay Restaurant is well worth the drive from town. Had the beer-battered fries - fish was very fresh. Plus, you get the added advantage of walking your meal off at one of Auckland's best beaches!

I wasn't impressed with Long Bay restaurant. It is such a gorgeous setting and a shame the restaurant doesn't live up to the same standard. We had lunch there and didn't enjoy the food at all. The food is pretty 80s and so is the decor - much like a run down surf lifesaving HQ. Aside from the disappointing food, the service was OK but not overly friendly.

I have to say that after a visit to Long Bay Restaurant over the weekend, I have to disagree entirely with your reviewer and the majority of readers posting user reviews.
My girlfriend and I called in after a good walk in the regional park. Expecting big things (not just because of the comments here but also I've seen their recent glossy adverts in the local rag), I'm afraid we were very disappointed to say the least.
The building is run down and very dated - and although I ordered the easiest thing to get right on the menu - big breakfast - the meal I got was pretty average to say the least. Greasey fare, I've had a lot better at the greasey spoon's in the UK and are only charged 2 quid! Even with all the positive comments, I doubt we'll be paying a return visit to Long Bay Restaurant.

I have been to Long Bay Restaurant several times and it's gorgeous location motivated me enough to get married there recently.

The food is actually very good - decent size servings and their linguini was particularly delicious. We were quite surprised, given the restaurant is based in an Auckland Regional Park. Usually Auckland Park restaurant's are flavourless wastelands.

The service is pretty good and always consistant - the staff are very friendly - but not too friendly.

We actually asked the manager why the exterior hadn't been made-over along with the menu and he advised that the council are holding up the resource consent process. Long Bay Restaurant is also a good reason to check out Long Bay Regional Park - it's sad the council don't get that.

AS.

This has got to be one of the best beach restaurants, and it is by far the most intimate dining experience I have had. As a local, I am proud to recommend Long Bay Restaurant. If you are looking for a complete package then look no further ...

Long Bay Restaurant has one of the best views in Auckland as it is situated right on the beach. Food and prices are in the average to good bracket, without being over the top. Don't take nana if she can't do a few steps, but a good place to take her to otherwise. We have been a few times and enjoyed ourselves.

The food here is OK (I agree with below, the menu is a bit stale), and it's not like they are understaffed (there is always a flurry of waitresses flying about) it's just that they are so inept.

There are some basic service rules that every restaurant needs to adhere to; take the order quickly, take the order down correctly, bring out all of the order at the same time, clear the dishes before the next course is ready, remember to bother to take the desert order. All of which the Long Bay restaurant failed to do!

OK place for lunch - just wish they would update their menu more frequently!

Great location, perfect view across Long Bay beach. The food is decent cafe fare, the service always performed with a smile. One of the best places to wind down and relax in the sunshine.
