Located on Upper Queen Street, Le Garde-Manger does appear a bit out of place amongst the many Korean / Chinese restaurants that surround it.

The food at Le Garde-Manger is resonably priced and isn't too bad. The best description for their food is that it feels really "home-cooked". Nothing fancy about it.

The entrees (french onion soup & escargot) were nothing to rave about. For mains, I had the duck confit, which was cooked well that the meat tender enough, but it was borderline dry.

Try the flambeed crepes. Entertaining to have it flambeed at the table but be warned, the flambeed crepes can pack a bit of an alcoholic punch.

What I love most about Le Garde-Manger is the atmosphere of the restaurant. A cosy restaurant without being too claustrophobic. Although, it can get quite warm inside.

The service was alright. The 2 staff manning the front of house were pretty efficient and friendly.

FYI, Le Garde-Manger also makes some pastries; croissants, almond croissants and pan au chocolat.

We had diner here recently and we all (party of 3) loved it! We had the savoury crepes (buckwheat) and they were really good, crispy and tasty. They were actually so good, we felt like being in Paris.
For desert we had a sweet crepe and they were also very crispy, as a good crepe should be. Staff were very friendly and even showed us around the kitchen to answer some questions about making the crepes.
Really enjoyed it, too bad we didn't stay longer in Auckland!

We stopped in here on our way to a show at The Edge theatre - and we were very pleasantly surprised with the food - it was REAL French fare!
Since we were in a rush we had the French Onion soup - and it was no Maggi pack! With the bread on top with grilled cheese - it was divine!
Then they whipped us up a a quick crepe for desert with fresh mixed berries!
We are going back soon for a full meal!
